Had I known about this thread I would have posted here sooner, so thanks ArmyGuy45 for pointing it out.

So let me introduce myself:

I'm Damon from Scottsdale. I'm happily married with a not-quite-8-month-old daughter. I'm a computer nerd and retired semi-pro rock musician. I grew up shooting rifles and hunting in WV, but I got out of it after moving to AZ because the thought of having to be drawn to get to hunt just isn't right. I was never really into pistols, but having my daughter got me to thinking about what I need to do to protect her, so I decided to buy a handgun, learn to use it well and get my CCW. And so I settled on the XDm in .40 for my first pistol, joined the Scottsdale Gun Club for easy, regular access to a range to train on and started shooting. I'm taking the CCW class in a couple of weeks and planning to pick up an XD 45 4" compact for a carry gun as soon as the funds allow.

I'm looking to make some new friends who are also avid shooters. I'd like to start doing some semi-regular run-and-guns in the desert both for fun and for skill development. I'm hoping to eventually be able to involve pistol, carbine, shotgun and 200-500 yard rifle in the games, but right now anything is an improvement. I'm more than willing to coordinate something like this, but I don't really know where to do it. So if anyone is interested hit me up. We'll figure out a place.

dude, you and i have a lot in common. I too have a baby girl, 7 months old now! i was never really into guns at all until she came along and it got me thinking as well. I purchased my first handgun for the same reason. I too settled on a xdm but in 9mm for my first. needless to say, I'm hooked. i go out desert shooting all the time, both for fun and to sharped my skills. I am looking for a 1911 .45 for my carry piece. I just purchased a mossy 12g for hd for the same reason, and now looking to get my gf a pistol for herself.

by the way, welcome to the forum and the thread, you sound like you would be a great addition!

I would be glad to get together with you and go shooting, however I only know of locations on the west side, specifically near goodyear. If you'd like to go shooting sometime, feel free to let me know, I'm available to go shooting pretty much anytime CdInAz and I are going to ben avery this saturday morning if you'd like to join us!

I'm cool with heading to Goodyear on the weekends. My in-laws live in Estrella Mountain Ranch, so I can drop the wife and kid there, bug out for a few hours of shooting, then still score bonus points for hanging with the extended fam a bit.

Thanks for the invite to Ben Avery, but I'm on baby duty this weekend while the wife gets some time for her hobbies. I've got my CCW class all day next Saturday but may be able to do something on that Sunday.

Greetings from another desert rat =)

Quick rundown: IT geek originally from Pennsylvania, moved to AZ in 99, used to think guns were for rednecks, freaks, and criminals, joined a friend on a range trip at Shooter's World, and have been hooked ever since!

Love the idea of some group shooting in the desert. I've been trying to ararnge something like that with some folks at work (and some outside of work) but just haven't had any luck so far. (Biggest issue for me is lack of 4wd, and a lot of the really cool places definitely require that. Let's just say that a BMW with sport suspension is NOT suited to anything but pavement, hehe.)

I can't bring a whole lot to the table (yet) but do have an XDm 40, USP 40, DPMS AR (5.56), and the requisite 10/22. All basic, but all would be welcome to run rounds through them.
