Security Talk - Checking Firearms at Airport
Found this on another forum. Some NSFW language though. A bit of different take on locking. He locks the OUTSIDE hard-side case with heavy lock, NOT just the hard case inside! In fact shows a pic of his gun in a gun rug inside his hard luggage. Uses guns to help lockup other stuff like PC equipment

Here is his website. Has a scorecard of a bunch of airlines and how they stack up for firearm fliers.

Good post.
Should be a sticky.
I've transported firearms in checked luggage a couple of times. It's a rather simple process.
The people behind the counter are accustomed to it and don't get freaked out.
One additional word of advice:
ALWAYS check the individual airline's website for their current procedures before you head for the airport.

Another plus is he uses surplus 81mm mortar cases as hard luggage!

Have to look into getting a High Point for flying.

The scorecards are very useful, and I've seen that video before. Lots of good info.
And yea, it's definitely not smart putting a small, locked case inside a bigger unlocked or "TSA-approved" locked case (which is the same as being unlocked). Some airlines won't even let you do that.

it was real easy when i went to cali. i just had my springfield hard case and locked that with a heavy lock, put it in my normal luggage that i checked in. told her i had a firearm and she asked to see it, i pulled the slide back showed her it was empty and i was good to go. that was at IAH here in houston. now coming home from cali was a different story. lol. same easy process, but the lady behind the counter got freaked out when i pulled the slide back to show her it was indeed unloaded. she was like "no no no put that away, you dont have to do that". i was like okits your airline company that asked me to do that on yalls website.

That's how I thought it HAD to be done. But the problem is, even those hard cases get ripped out of luggage and stashed by handlers. Harder to steal and conceal a huge mortar case! He said to cut off any locking holes and/or handle so that can't make you lock it instead of the normal luggage. Then you get to secure ALL your crap, not just the gun.

I came from Colorado with a rifle and NSA checks the locked gun case, opens it and checks for rounds in chamber and then signs a shhet that its been checked and BAM done..Very simple IMO

Excellent advice as not all airlines will allow you to transport a firearm under any circumstance.

now if you get by with it in your carry on, the whole airport should be fired..
