Man charged with murder after gunfight at southwest apartment complex

A 42-year-old man was charged with murder after a gunfight Sunday morning at an apartment complex in the 6600 block of West Airport, police said.

Jay Scurlock attempted to recover appliances from a tenant at about 11 a.m. that he claimed belonged to him as the former property owner, police said.

The tenant's two brothers got into an argument with Scurlock, who then tried to leave the complex in his car. One of the brothers blocked his exit when he stood behind Scurlock's car, police said. Scurlock backed up and knocked the brother to the ground, police said. The other brother, Tony Smith, 17, began banging on Scurlock's window when he saw his brother on the ground. Smith pulled a tire tool from his trunk and used it to strike Scurlock's car, police said.

Scurlock pulled a gun from his car and fired at Smith, hitting him in the chest, police said. Smith died at the scene.

Scurlock was taken to a hospital after he complained of having chest pains. Once he was released, he was arrested and charged with murder, police said.

It won't matter...they don't let you have your own appliances in prison!

Yeah but he can sell them to buy smokes which in turn he can trade and buy his way away from the butt bandit

I wonder if he has to give the security deposit back? if not he can use that for his attorney

story is a little vague. it doesnt really say it the guy just hit the landlords car with the tire iron, or if he was hitting the windows of the car, trying to hit the driver. if it was the later i would think thats a justifiable shoot. if someone is smashing my window in with a large pipe i cant say i wouldnt be inclined to draw.

I think this guys ass is in jail for a long time weather he gets his refrig back or not. He used his car as a weapon against one brother making him the aggressor and when the other brother came to his brothers aid he was taken out. Bubba's got a new buddy.

If I'm reading correctly, the brother of Mr. TireIron was standing behind the car of Mr. Repo.

Mr. Repo then ran into, however gently, Mr. TireIron's brother. Mr. TireIron then, after what could easily be construed as an attack on his brother, got the tire iron and attack Mr. Repo's car.

As far as I can tell, Mr. Repo is the aggressor. He should've just called the police. Now he's screwed. Literally.
