why?

who cares if someone wants to off themselves?

so long as they don't take anyone else with them.

+1

An NRA Basic Pistol class is also a great way to tryout various handguns!

why exactly is simple a problem. how is requiring a basic gun safety class prior to renting a gun a bad idea?

A guy killed himself in the gun store near my home when I was 17 by asking to see a rifle, walking quickly to the middle of the store, loading as single round he brought with him and POP! The store clerks knew it was trouble the instant we started to move away, thought he was gonna steal it.

I showed up the next day, had to ask "why is everyone acting so weirdly?!".

Personally, I'm afraid for my safety everytime I go to an indoor, public range.
You just never know what's gonna happen.

Not trying to be an ass, just un-informed and new to shooting. Does it cost money to take one of these classes? More than a gun would cost? Does completion of this class mean that the would-be suicide victim would actually stop, or would he just execute himself while pointing the barrel down range? Got to keep the safety of others in mind, right? Technically, he'd be following the 4 rules.

Also, Darwin says let them die.

Exactly.
You assume a pretty weak position if you think some suicidal guy gives you a bad name.

There are 1000 dif ways to commit suicide. He could have just as easily done it with a car and drove head on into a semi. Would that make drivers look bad?

The media is going to latch onto anything that is anti-gun because that is their agenda. No matter how many egg shells you get gun owners to walk on, they will find something bad somewhere to hold up like a golden calf and sell that agenda.

The trick is in:

1) recognising the media's bull****
2) calling them on their bull****
3) offering counter-propaganda for the sheep that would believe their bull****
4) punishing the sponsors of hostile media by voting with your dollars.
5) pumping pro-gun institutions full of cold hard cash to ensure we have an organized front against these bull****ting anti-gun bastards

eff Darwin, I don't want to be in the range when they do it.

The classes cost a little bit of money, and completion of the class will not stop the would be suicide, but it might make it a little more difficult to do it in a gun store/range so maybe he would go look for an easier route that doesnt include signing up for, paying for, and completing a class. Time for him to think about suicide and it makes other ways of commiting suicide more attractive.. I dont care if they commit suicide. I do care the do it in a gun range where I might be with a freakin rented gun !

The class is all classroom and no rangetime? If so, that may deter a would be suicider. A $500 deposit (90% refund) would be a good deterrent as well. Hell, a $500 completely refundable deposit on a rental would be a good step, too(if you're a would be buyer, this wouldn't be a problem). Just my $0.02
