Yep, it's happening a little more often lately.

Something about the highest unemployment in 26 years and a totally bleak view of our over-regulated and triple-taxed future.

The urban ranges in the greater Seattle, WA area won't rent you a gun unless you already have one OR someone comes with you (that 2nd one, I dunno if that's effective). The more rural places just toss you the gun and say "go!".

What IS the suicide rate these days? Sure seems hard to find any relevant, current information on that stuff. Want to know for 2006? No problem.

I'm not saying that it would prevent the guy from commiting suicide. I just wish these people would quit doing it at gun ranges. This does give all of us honest gun owners a bad name. I cant talk to anyone now without them saying "your not afraid of getting shot at the range now?"

Exactly.

The policy of the range closest to my home is to only rent guns if there are two or more shooters... no lone person can rent a gun. The reasoning being the suicide won't off himself in front of a relative or friend. They still, on rare occasion, have experienced SIWs.

Also, you don't even have to be a range to have this issue. My favorite local gunshop has had "customers" walk in, ask to see a gun, then load a bullet they brought in with them and shoot themselves before they could be stopped. This too is rare, but it happens. A determined suicide will find a way.

Being the latest range to have someone off themselves there might also be bad for buisness.

Exactly!! They are going to kill themselves one way or another!! It's a shame they decide to go out like this... Now they're dead and the rest of us have to pay the price via no more gun rentals or stupid new gun control laws!!

Before there were weapons, people were killing each other with the bare hands and feet!! Is the government going to cut off our hands and feet because we could kill someone with them???

Good god, not only are they stupid but cheap as well. At least buy the damned gun and do it somewhere that people don't have to witness it.

Huh? You're kidding right? Let's at least try to stay rational while discussing this topic.

No kidding! Plus, I don't want their damn brains and blood all over me at the range!

Well, being broke is motivation enough for some people to check out early.

And as far as discouraging new shooters, while it would be nice to comparison shop, in my local area there are no commercial ranges, all we have are private clubs or game land facilities. The gun shops don't even have ranges available to try out a gun. I wish they did. But none of this seems to have had a detrimental effect on current gun sales and not all of them are repeat customers.
