I HATE it when you see this typical situation. I've seen it on more than one occasion.
Group of guys, usually 3...I don't know why, but it has always been 3? They are all gathered around ONE stall and are all sharing the same gun. (obviously not trained in gun safety or proper range etiquette at all) Let alone proper shooting technique.

Then you hear the tell tale rapid fire and the gangsta sideways grip. (because it's cool right?) Shots are all over the place! and I mean all over. You see the foam flying off the side walls of the range. One time i saw some of the ceiling tiles get shot up. And the target looks pathetic. Not one proper shot placement. Just random holes everywhere but on target.

Then one guy out of the 3 has one bullet that lands on the head of the silhoutte by luck and he starts yelling and talking smack "Hell yeah fools, that fool is dead! yada yada" jumping around the stall and carrying on.

One time their gun jammed, and the slide wouldn't go back into battery. And one of the guys had the barrel pointed sideways toward the stall divider (and the whole firing line) and was banging the gun upside down on the floor!!! WTF!?

The ONE comforting thing I find about this whole deal, is If I ever come up against one of these wannabe gangstas, I'm pretty damn sure that I'm a better shot.

They begin shooting a 45 ACP and are not achieving anything remotely resembling a group. Their Just spraying lead all over the place. I felt kind of bad for the beginners, because that’s not how you start off a new shooter. After a while one of the newbies points at my target and asked the Alpha Male why I can shoot like that too. The Alpha said it was because I was only shooting a 9mm and not a real gun like them. So I put my 9mm away, got out my 45 ACP (a Spartan) and made another ragged hole. Smiled at the guys and went back to minding my own business.
So basically to cliff note your story:

STI Awesome Girl who can shoot Awesome STI again Awesome I'm Jealous

ps-I'm trying to get my wife to agree to a STI 5.0 tactical for my b-day...ehhhh I don't think it's going to happen, haha

I just witnessed this today.

Four buff UK guys comes in....

Range guy (RG): How can I help you?
Main buff guy (MBG): It's our first time here, I've shot guns before and I wanna shoot with my buddies.
RG: Do you have any handgun experience?
MBG: Yeah, of course...I was going to shoot one of my buddies today. (!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
RG: Comments like that sir will ban you from shoot here.
MBG: Uh...um...
Range guy gives them another chance. Range rules require at least one person to be an experience shooter, no newbies are allowed in the range. If they're new, range officers encourage them to bring a friend to teach them how to shoot or take a basic handgun class that they offer there. An NRA shooting instructor is only there twice a week and there were no instructors there today. With that....
RG: Alright, for first timers here at our range we ask for you to demonstrate a safe gun handling test. Would you like me to test you?
MBG: Yeah sure, test me on that. (Points to a 1911 gun rental).
Range guy removes the mag, safely checks the chamber and pulls out two .45ACP snap caps. Presents MBG the empty mag and two snap caps.
RG: Can you show me how to load these into the mag.
MBG: Sure.
MBG loads the two snap caps in backwards inside the mag.
RG: Sir, you've put in the mags in backwards so you've failed the test.
MBG: What???!!! I've shot 15 guns in my whole life!!!
RG: Sorry sir I can't let you shoot because of the test I just gave you, do any of your other friends experienced shooters?
MBG gave the RG a 15 second threatening stare.
MBG: Screw you!
Buff guy and group leave in a hissy fit.

Classic.

Moral of the story: Every range has different rules and people must abide to them no matter how stupid or reasonable the rules are. Plus, don't poop in other peoples' houses.

Actually, a safe-handling test like that is a great idea, I'll have to remember that.

A few months back I had a run in with a few idiots. On the 25yd pistol range a buddie and I set up and shoot like anyother time then all the sudden BOOOM. The guy in the last stall is shooting a scoped 7mm ultra mag, what the hell. Then the guy goes on and oon about all his gun experince to his buddy then goes back trying to sight in his rifle. Three shots later he still isn't on paper. Now he is compalining abiut how his scope wont adjust ,he is turning the caps to the scope not adjusting it. So he proceeds to take the loaded rifle into the range office returnig two minuts later with the caps, rifle bolt, remaining rounds, and a vary red face. He starts bithching and leaves five minutes later pretty sure he was kicked out. Tards everywere.

Gun shops should really start handing out pamphlets about proper handgun safety and range etiquette. The NRA should make them and send them to gun shops everywhere. With all these first time shooters things have been dangerous lately.

Thank god for the small stuff. At least if I ever have a problem with some gangbanger the safest place to be is about 10 yards directly in front of him lol.

I could tell it was unloaded, but I cleared it and gave it back. Still not really impressed with that store...
If that fellow does that regularly it won't be long until someone stomps his face in. Someone did this to one of my better friends that I shoot with regularly. I watched jaw agape as my friend busted him in the throat and disarmed him nearly breaking his thumb in the process. The OP was being extremely unsafe and had already swept us both a few times (and my friend had already had one discussion about safety with him). The **** finally went down as my friend had just finished at the line, turns around and the OP is pointing a gun at his chest. Some random guy that left the range with a bruised ego. He complained to the range officer and my understanding was that the range officer more or less told him to go **** himself (my words, I don't really know what was said).

I ****ing hate stupid people.

I now primarily shoot at the Riverside Range and Greenport Tactical. Both places in my opinion are extremely safe and have been relatively incident free. The range officer's at Riverside Range seem to have a very good eye for inexperience. In fact I never really thought about it until reading this post but it seems like everytime I shoot there I personally witness them disallowing someone (today in fact) or a group of people from shooting based upon the results of a safe-handling test. I almost feel like I should thank the RO next time I see him!

Greenport is nice because it is a relatively unknown place that attracts typically the most skilled operators. I suspect that around 50% of the people that regularly shoot there are LEO, military, or retired military.
