We all know that idiots exist on ranges, Ive seen it in the Mil, LEO, and CIV world. The sad thing is that many of you guys listing your stories never attempted to correct and instruct the individuals. I commend those of you that did.
Its the teach a man to fish theory, if you continue to let a person be wrong, their bad habits will set in, but if you educate, you may be saving a life and saving us from further gun legislation. |

I had one earlier this week. Older guy, has been shooting for probably 60-65 years. He kept pointing his Colt .22lr revolver at me... I ended up yelling at him after politely asking him to knock it off 4 times. Swept the range probably 20 times +, but had it LOADED pointed RIGHT at my face 5 times. He had his chewing coming. Range warden did nothing that time.
Had a LEO with an AR-15 sweep the range today, range warden yelled at him. Good thing we had one of the anal ones. If I HAD to get shot I'd rather it be with a .22lr than a fusillade of .223 hollowpoints... Hell my wife and a gay friend of ours did better with safety than either of these 2 idiots, and they have little (or the gay guy had none) experience with guns!

now i mostly only shoot at a county public range with 2-3 ball buster RO's there watching everyone. they have VERY strict rules. i had hated the idea of the strict rules and RO, now i wont go to a range without one(or more). i didnt have a bad experience at the unsupervised public range i used to go to, everyone was always professional, one of the regulars would kinda take lead and everyone would stick to hot and cold and keeping away from the line. but now with all the extra idiots that just ran out and bought guns on the rush, i have heard enough horror stories and im not willing to take the chance.
i had my dad at the strick RO county range. noone can go ahead of the line to check targets until everyone is behind the line and all guns are safetied, mags out and chambers locked/blocked open. after everyone was behind the line and the guns were being checked my dad thought it was time and walked towards the line, the RO barked at him for it, i thought it was kinda funny. it only makes for good practice and better range etiquette. if you go shoot there and dont get warned for anything, you did good. someone said it before too and i agree 100%, the RO's have a (mostly)thankless job and they deal with idiots constantly. i dont envy their position but do thank them for keeping things safe.
