now i mostly only shoot at a county public range with 2-3 ball buster RO's there watching everyone. they have VERY strict rules. i had hated the idea of the strict rules and RO, now i wont go to a range without one(or more). i didnt have a bad experience at the unsupervised public range i used to go to, everyone was always professional, one of the regulars would kinda take lead and everyone would stick to hot and cold and keeping away from the line. but now with all the extra idiots that just ran out and bought guns on the rush, i have heard enough horror stories and im not willing to take the chance.
i had my dad at the strick RO county range. noone can go ahead of the line to check targets until everyone is behind the line and all guns are safetied, mags out and chambers locked/blocked open. after everyone was behind the line and the guns were being checked my dad thought it was time and walked towards the line, the RO barked at him for it, i thought it was kinda funny. it only makes for good practice and better range etiquette. if you go shoot there and dont get warned for anything, you did good.
someone said it before too and i agree 100%, the RO's have a (mostly)thankless job and they deal with idiots constantly. i dont envy their position but do thank them for keeping things safe.
