Holy Sh*t what are all the dials on your watch for BigC?
I'll give you a hint. It takes four years just to read the instructions.

Suunto Vector

Altimeter
Thermometer
Barometer
Compass
etc.
etc.
etc.

One thing though, this thing is so huge I have to wear it on the inside of my wrist so everyone isn't always staring at my arm.

p.s. oh yeah it also tells time.

That's lame.

Wow, definitely a useful watch The Willis. But are all those functions and devices actually accurate?

You wouldn't think it was lame if you ever owned one. There mostly just for show.

I'll never use the pilot functions ( the dials) but the timers and alarms will come in handy. The instructions are an inch thick. Good thing for me it came with an CD ROM step by step set up guide. It's idiot proof. :P

I think i have the beginings of carpel tunnel or something. During my 4.5 year stint on subs, I had to take down probably thousands upon thousands of pages of logs. All were taken using a clipboard. During my final year my left wrist started getting aggrivated when holding the clipboard. A watch just makes it worse. To this day, when I do any kind of typing, my wrist acts up.
I used to be like retired and felt naked without a watch. I've now made the adjustment to using the cell phone for time. Yeah its a pain but its not too bad.

Actually, it is very accurate.

However, the functions relating to temperature are of course skewed when you are wearing the watch. The sensor is on the wrist-side of the face.

Altitude accuracy is based on air pressure(barometer) so when a storm is on the way or, when the wather is really nice, or it is raining cats and dogs, the altitude can be off a few hundred feet. I have used my GPS, roadside markings, and airplane rides to test the accuracy of the altitude. The airplane ride was cool as the barometer leveled off and stayed that way for the "cruising" portion of our flight.

If I were a mountaineer this would bea great tool! I a m not a mountaineer, but it is fun to play around with on occasion. It tells the temp. perfectly when hanging from a pack, or on the side of a kayak.

Overall it was a great gift.

I guess I'm just a lowlife. Over the last 14 years or so I've worn two Timex Expeditions. The analog dial is easy to read for an old guy, the light works when I need it, and it has all the digital goodies. It's also extremely accurate and the error it has is consistent. If I had to go offshore and navigate with my old sextant it would be fine. I like the one I wear now even more since I replaced the stinky leather band with a rubber one. Oh, and if it breaks or lose it I can replace it for less than $40. I could buy four of them for what the knife I carry cost me.
