If you had to build an arsenal...

What guns would you buy in what order? Pretend you have a fairly reasonable, but conservative budget...and *omg*...no guns. You have to build your collection from scratch. What are the first 5-10 guns you buy? Consider any type of handgun, rifle, or shotgun....for whatever reason. Self-defense, hunting, whatever. I think it'd be really interesting to see what people prioritize.....and it'll help me build my collection.

$1k a month????

damn, I could build a dream arsenal in no time w/ that.

well, the first 5 guns I would recommend are still the first 5 I would recommend to anyone. Keep in mind I am a trigger snob so these may be slightly higher in cost than what some people will recommend.

- A bolt action .22 because eventually your love of the sport will rub off on someone and this is where everyone should start because it teaches sight picture and is easier for you to keep them safe. I personally would look for a Remington 504 or a WW2 Remington 40x

- A Ruger 10/22. maybe not the best trigger in it's stock form, but plenty of aftermarket items are available for you to learn how different add ons affect the way the gun fires and what items you want to look for in higher end guns down the road.

- A .357 revolver. I personally love my Dan Wesson. I have the pistol pak which included 2,4,6,8" bbls, 3 different colored front sight ribs, and all my bbls have vent ribs and full underlug to minimize barrel harmonics and help reduce recoil. I also love the Colt Revolvers. I will be chastised by many here because I am not a big fan of S&W. They do the job, and they are durable as an old Jeep, but I personally do not like the triggers on them.

- A 9mm auto. Again, your pick. Find something that fits your hand and your natural aim. The XD and the Browning Hi Power are the two that fit me best and have wonderful box stock triggers. I do like the Walther and the HK p2000 for their ability to tune the grip to your hand, and w/ a spring change, the LEM trigger on the p2000 becomes a worthwhile thing to have on a carry weapon. If I didn't have the takeup on the LEM trigger, I would probably be typing this from jail as our county prosecuter is not the most gun friendly individual.

- A shotgun. personal preference for a first shotgun is the venerable Remington 870. Pick your own gauge. I personally have 2 of them in 16 ga.

Those are my suggestions for the first 5.

Beyond that, I would start looking for the following

- HK 91 or G3 type rifle
- HK 94/mp5 clone
- AR 15
- FN FAL or FNC
- M1 Garand
- M1 Carbine
- M14/M21
- Mausers... lots of em.
- Enfield Mk1 and Mk3
- Remington 1871 trapdoor
- Webley pistol
- Walther p1/p38
- Luger
- SKS
- Over/Under shotgun... Rizzini or a Remington Peerless
- 1911 (no collection is complete w/o one even if you don't like them)
- Lever Action carbine such as Winchester Model 1886 or 1894
- Sharps rolling block

This is just the start of my personal wish list

Keeping things simple:
-1911
-XD9
-.357 revolver (S&W prefered)
-AR-15
-12 gauge shotgun

With a thousand dollars a month for 4 months, you would have everything listed above and could then build upon what you have as your base arsenal!

Well I generally buy a gun about every month or two.....so I guess heres the list of "arsenal weapons":

SA 1911 .45 ACP - later sent out to precision gunworks for quite a bit of customizing

SA XD .357 SIG Service - also been customized by bowie tactical and the SA custom shop

RRA 16" AR-15 carbine customized with FF rail, lights, EO tech sight, dominator mount modified by white oaks precision

Teppo Jutsu 16" .458 SOCOM AR-15 w/ aimpoint sight and arms mount

JLD PTR-91 .308 with trigger work done by....um, forget his name....Bill I think.

Another SA GI .45...which is going to make a trip to Precision Gunworks soon to have modifications done.

Randall Raush did my 20" A1 styled AR-15. Lower was assembled by me and sports a WOA tuned trigger. Free Float tube under the triangle handguards

Although not something I would want to carry around, for long range work I have a Montana Rifle chambered in .338 Lapua magnum with stock work done by MPI stocks.

Although I dont have it....I did put in an order for a custom 1911 from Precision Gunworks. This one is in 10mm however.

Recently I purchased a FN hipower for my girlfriend to play with. Its also going to get customized a bit but its a good gun for carry...I almost hate to actually give it to her. lol

Other guns include .445 supermagnum revolver, .357 mag revolver, Bulgarian Makarov, CZ-52, various .22's, .220 swift target rifle, 870 wingmaster, SKS, etc etc. Bout the only thing I dont have is a good tactical/home defense shotgun.

AR-15, collapsable stock, carrying handle with Picatinny rail, upper and lower forearms with Picatinny rails. Red dot holo site, bi-pod, front pistol grip, laser, flashlight.

Mossberg 500 18" barrel, pistol grip, heat shield.

Two .45 ACP XD Tacticals, both OD Green, one for each hand.

That would be my "end of the world" load out.

Might as well include a SA White Feather M1. How could I forget that?
