Ummm...first off, NFA. Second, once you shortened the barrel to 15", wouldn't the tube extend past the end of the barrel if you extended it?

A full-size 5" 1911 45ACP (SA, Kimber, Wilson...pick one)

A compact or subcompact 9mm CCW pistol (XD-9 or Sig 239?)

A tactical pump 12 gauge shotgun (870 Remington)

A full-sized 12 gauge field shotgun with removable chokes. (pick one)

A 357 magnum 4 or 6" barrel (Mod 19/66/686 Smith?)

a 22 rimfire pistol (MkII Ruger, Buckmark maybe?)

A 22 rimfire bolt action rifle with 3x9x32mm detatchable scope. (pick one)

A 30-06 caliber bolt action hunting rifle with a quality 3x9x40mm scope. (Remington 700/Mod.70 Winny?)

A 22 caliber centerfire bull barrel varmint rifle with 6x24 power varmint scope and a bipod. (Remington, Ruger, Savage or Winchester in 222, 223, 220 Swift or 22-250)

A lever action 357 or 44 mag carbine (preferably Marlin 1894)

A 20 gauge 870 pump or 1100 Remington for light bird hunting

Yep...I could get everything done with these simple dependable choices. Note: these are all around choices...NOT my personal favorites...thats a very different list!

Month 1:
-XD .45 tactical
-Pump shotgun, full size, all bells and whistles
-.22 bolt action w/ scope
should be right around the 1K, maybe a bit over

Month 2/3:
-Springfield Socom II
http://www.springfield-armory.com/pr...socom-ii.shtml
(probably could've gone w/ an AK for 7.62 for a LOT cheaper but this is all fictional and i LOVE this gun)

Month 4:
Para-Ordinance Hawg 9 (.45 would be nice but want mult. calibers in case scavenging ammo, etc.... the SHTF scenario)
optics/mags/laser etc for SOCOM II

Month 5-9:
-Springfield M25 Tactical Rifle
http://www.springfield-armory.com/prod-rifles-m25.shtml
-Optics

Month 10:
AR-15 (.223)

Month 11:
XD .40 SC (BUG, another caliber option)
Keltec P-32 (last line of defense)
small 16" pump shotgun, pistol grip, no stock, w/ sling

Month 12:
not a revolver person but wanted the flexibility:
.357 Mag
.44 Mag
Mags/clips/etc for everything

So i'm assuming this is not including all my ammo and gear budget... plus the acquistion and restoration of military grade Humvee, haha!

If I were building an arsenal for SHTF etc. For every weapon I would consider purchasing I would be buying lots of spare parts, any special tools needed to repair it, along with the appropriate amount of ammo.

Having 20 guns does nothing for you if you break something or don't have enough ammo to feed it.

In a SHTF or survival type scenario, I'd stick with "NATO" calibers for as much as possible due to ammo availability. 9x19, .45ACP, .223 and .308 are all wise choices. The only two exceptions would be a 12ga shotgun and a .357 revolver. You just can't beat a revolver's reliability.

So... My minimum arsenal would consist of (not in any particular order):

9mm OR .45ACP semi-auto pistol
.357 revolver (4-6" barrel)
9mm carbine OR an AR15 type carbine in .223 (5.56 NATO)
.308 bolt action rifle (7.62 NATO)
12ga shotgun

I would think that those few choices would cover all of your bases. You could throw in a .22LR rifle or pistol, but other than being able to carry a TON of ammo, it wouldn't really offer anything that couldn't be accomplished by one of the other options.

Ditto, but the 870 12g would go after the SKS and the AK would be replaced with a CMP Garand.
If you've got an SKS and an AR15, there's no real need for the AK.

$1k a month?

First month:
Mossberg 500
Olympic Arms Plinker 16

second month:
Springfield XD 45 (figuring 500 just for the package)
$500 worth of extra mags

third month:
Extra Mags for the ar15

fourth month:
Ammo for everything

fifth month:
repeat.

really honestly, i don't even know if i would go as far as repeating. as long as i had the ammo, magazines and mres, i would hold out as long as i could with those weapons.

within the next three years i'm building me a bunker. my ammo and food supplies will be stored there. i'm thinking within the next ten years the shtf will happen. we're on our way to pissing everyone and thier god mother off and we've got enough illegals in country to mount a very effective invasion. call me parinoid but i see it.
