40 cal or 45cal? XD or Taurus... help

I am big time torn b/n the XD40 sub and the PT145 MP... I just can't decide between the 2... I would like to get a 40 and 45 but only want 1 of the 2 to be polymer... Must be compact.. that is what I want in this next purchase (so avoid the XD45 talk) This will be my "beater gun".. with me in the truck, fishing, hunting, camping, although I take very good care of my firearms, I want one that I want be afraid to knock around a little or get scratched a little or brave the elements with.. more for protection to be with me, and etc... What would you do...

1. Get the PT145 MP... compact and well it is a 45 at a lower price with 10rd cap...save the money to put toward a 40 cal, maybe a Sig, or skip the 40 all together and just get another 45 down the road (love some of Springfield's and Para's but that purchase of a looker piece will be down the road a bit)...

2. Get the XD40 due to quality and sub compact size and durability, and save a little longer and get a 1911 style 45.

3. Get the PT140 MP (save a little money)... and get a 1911 style 45...

What do you think... With the PT140 vs PT 145.. basically same price.. Probably ought to opt for the 45? IS the Taurus price point savings worth choosing it over the XD40sub?

I really really really dislike Taurus guns because I've personally found them to be horribly unrelaible. Many people have them and have never had a problem but I've had quite a few with the ones I've shot (revolvers) and wouldn't spend a dime on one.

That might just be me though.

Cheers

i have very limited experience with taurus. they used to have a horrible
name but as of late, they seem to be getting a lot better. i have heard
talk , from other people , that taurus is on top of their game now.
i have a friend that just bought a taurus revolver and the fit and finish is
good and the gun shoots well. but that does not say anything about
its reliability. i have met people that love them and people that hate them.

Just a quick note on it being your "beater" gun. Make sure if you get an XD to keep it clean or else you may have rusting problems like some people have.

Go shoot the XD and the Taurus and then make up your mind. I've got the PT 140 & 145 MP series. For the home, I rely on the XD or Sig. Never had a malfunction with the PT 145 (400 rds) and the PT 140 had to make one trip back to the factory and has been flawless ever since. They are all good pistols.

damn, i hate to say this, but if you need a beater gun that will
be taking abuse, its hard to beat a glock. its damn near impossible
to hurt the finish on a glock and they shoot good and will digest
just about anything that you throw at them.

DAMN THAT HURT

Just don't like the Glocks feel in my hand... having shot both the XD and the taurus.. I like them both... I do plan on getting the slide hard chromed after purchase, so finish is not a big deal to me.
