YOU ARE MY HERO!!!

Seriously, I got to work, checked a few of my routine sites and then settled in for a bit of xdtalk. Hmm...what's this? A pm? Lemme read this. Oh. I see. Hobo is rubbing something in...let see what he got this time.

BLAM my jaw literally came as close to hitting the floor as physically possible.

Dude...those are very seriously awesome! Congrats!

ETA: So...since you have the Armalite...you won't be needing your AR? You have an AR, yes? Wanna, you know, give it to me so that it doesn't feel inferior? :P

Have you done any plinking with the P1 yet? I had a chance to shoot my P38 for the first time yesterday, and for a 62 year old gun, I was quite amazed at how well it shot.

Fine. The FAL doesn't cycle right now anyway. You can use your ammo to figure out what's wrong with it and fix it. And as for the Garands, well, last I checked you were neglecting the one(s) you have! If I remember correctly, that's why I had 6 M1 clips show up in the mail from Nevada, cause they weren't being used. :P

Great acquisitions, I have heard good things about the 180B but I haven’t shot one yet, I hope they both give you years of enjoyment.

Range report:

I didn't have too much time for blasting, so I did a quick test for function and shot a few pieces of paper.

P-1/P-38:
Very nice pistol! Easy to point and function was flawless. I loaded up a mag of Mi-Wall reloads and the first shot was double action just to get things started. There was a can about 10 yards away and I nailed from double action mode Whoooaaaa, I thought. The next shot danced the can again. I then switched to the paper target and shot a diagonal group about 4 inches from the bullseye and down to the left. The wind was swirling pretty good from the right and it was a chore to keep the sights aligned. I did get a few empty cases on the forehead, but no serious injury. Kind of odd that the extractor is on the left side and the majority of the cases dump left, but for the most part the cases go all over the place. Such a classic design, but I didn't expect XD like accuracy, but I am very surprised how accurate the pistol is. I like it alot.

AR-180b:
Interesting to say the least. Recoil is different from the standard AR-15. You hear a "clunk" like the sound a hollow coconut would make instead of the recoil spring compression of the AR-15. The AR-180 is surely a pre AR-15. The straight stock isn't as ergonomic as the standard AR and actually slaps your cheekbone a bit. You really can't just "bed" into the sight like the AR-15. First I loaded up 10 rounds of Federal/American Eagle and cut loose on a distant dirt backstop. Sights were way off, like about 2 feet high and right. I couldn't even get a group on paper I will have to work on the front sight as per the instruction manual and realign with the rear. I tried to change the elevation with a screwdriver, but the post wouldn't budge. I switched from a 20 rounder to a 30 AR mag and it fed just fine. Then the mishap. I loaded up some Wolf .223 and about 5 shots in a total jam! action locked up tight on a live round. I couldn't cycle the action and the bolt was frozen shut I got a small screw driver and recocked the hammer to see if the live round would fire, it didn't Then I reverted to caveman mode and wrapped a small rock with a cloth and tapped on the charging handle to release the bad round. Hmmm a out of spec Wolf .223 that didn't chamber completely (and I am a Wolf ammo backer too ). I then took out the bolt and inspected the barrel and chamber. All clear. Fired off the remainder of Wolf ammo without a stall. Then back to the Federal ammo and function was perfect again. I don't think Wolf ammo will see the AR-180b again oh well. I think the rifle being labeled as 5.56 has something to do with it as well as the out of spec round from Wolf.
Still, I am happy with the rifle and working on the accuracy problem is half the fun (I think). Even though the rifle wasn't perfect, I am happy with my new toys. I hope to do better next time after I get the bugs out of the 180b's sighting set up. It's funny how you will accept a firearm even if it isn't perfect. I guess I can excuse it's faults and give it time to prove itself.
I really appreciate how both the rifle and pistol is designed. Fascinating and ingenious. They both have dual recoil springs!

Walther P-1/38 will get a grade of A-.
Armalite AR-180b gets a C+ and hopefully better grade next time out.

poopy pics, but you get the idea

I had a wolf scare recently as well. Horrible jam of a shot round. Range master took it to the gunsmith and I guess after cleaning last time I didn't reoil(!?!?) the dropped some oil down their and popped out with no problem.

Naturally the first thing they did was look at my box of ammo and go "oh its these crappy alluminum cases you need to get some WWB"

However happy to report I did a good cleaning that night and it function flawless with wolf again
