Keyholeing?

I have purchased a Bersa 9mm Ultra Compact. I intend to use it occasionally for concealed carry. So far, I'm very happy with this pistol. I've only had a chance to take it to the range a couple times, but I immediately noticed I have keyhole shaped holes in the target. It was obvious to me, since I am used to seeing nice round holes from my XD-40 Tactical. I've read some threads stating this means the bullet is tumbling towards the target. Is this a bad thing? I've only used WWB FMJ so far. If I continue to see keyholed holes with personal defense rounds, does this mean the round will not perform as it normally should? That would make me hesitant to use it for CC. That would not be a good thing, since that was my main reason to purchase the pistol.

fmj's typically woln't make a perfect hole. If you get a wadcutter and it doesn't make a nice hole then I'd be worried.

I would do some more testing, bullets should not keyhole and yes, they may not perform as prefered if they are realy tumbling.

When bullets tumble barrels are usually burned out. No lands or grooves left.

Wouldn't that just mean a bigger wound and more "tissue displacement"?

No. It means either somebody shot out the barrel, didnt take care of it, or its just a P.O.S.

I would think it takes ALOT to shoot out a barrel. Perhaps the crown is bad or the loads are off. I saw some guys shoot West Coast Bullets have the same problem. We called them "West Coast Wobblers".

Try some different ammo. If you have the same problem, have a Gunsmith look at it.

No. I don't believe it would penetrate/travel that far due to the tumbling (hence why bullets are designed the way that they are and please someone correct me if I am wrong).
