Walther Jammomatic should be the new name.
Got a new Walther P22 for a gift and I went and shot it yesterday. WOW, what a piece of ****. I dont know what was the problem, the gun, the ammo, or what. But the thing jammed at least twice every magazine I shot. It made me really pissed off. The problem was that every cartridge would jam up against the feed ramp and not slide into the chamber. I would have to tap the back of the slide pretty hard to get it to go in. I would shoot a few rounds and the slide would lock back with a round stuck in the feed ramp, another tap on the slide and it would be fine. I bought a box of 500 $7 ammo from academy sports. I dont remeber exactly what it was since i am at work, but it was a green box. I think remington thunderbolt 22's long rifle??? I shot about 150 rounds and just couldnt handle it anymore so i left. I'll clean and lube it and try a diff ammo, hopefully with better luck. I was shooting right out of the box, without lube or any cleaning. So maybe that was it.

I have the same gun and have never had a problem with it, with any ammo that i have used.... I learned not to use thunderbolt ammo because the lead makes it take twice as long to clean.... you can get remington jacketed bullets for just a few bucks more and its much cleaner.

I think that's a common problem with the P22... if you search around a bit you will probably find some 'tricks' people have used to get their mags to feed properly. I remember reading that there was a bit of tweaking necessary on most P22's to get them to feed reliably. I believe I found that searching on glocktalk, but not sure. Good luck on your hunt.

Get a little bit higher powered ammo. Try some of the CCI stuff in the orange plastic box.

I think it's important to keep in mind that the P22 is a cheap plinker. It can be very reliable if you take care of it properly and feed it ammo it likes. Once I got mine cleaned and lubed correctly, it has been reliable. It's probably the most "fun" pistol to shoot that I own and you can "pimp" it out on the cheap.
A couple things to know about the Walther P22- Make sure your magazines have an "A" prefix. The older mags are awful and Walther will replace them free of charge. Keep in mind that the older mags will sometimes show up with newly purchased pistols (who knows how long the box sat with the distributer/dealer.) I have had zero FTF from A series magazines. The P22 is VERY particular about ammo. My P22 reliably feeds the Federal 550 pack, CCI mini mags, and Winchester Golden BBs without a problem, but will choke on other CCI ammo as well as anything made by Blazer and that POS Thunderbolt ammo. My friend's P22 feeds Federal and CCI ammo without a problem but chokes on Winchester ammo. As far as I can tell, the Federal 550 packs from Walmart seem to feed in all P22s I have seen. FYI- The Remington Thunderbolt ammo chokes in all my .22s (2 different rifles and 2 different pistols.) It's crap ammo. A couple other tips- Upgrade your recoil spring. The P22 can have problems returning to battery, especially if your thumb is resting on the slide. Go light on the oil in most spots but go a little heavy on the slide rails. I have found Gunbutter to be the perfect lube for the P22 (and all my other pistols..) Good messageboard with P22 info- http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums...splay.php?f=48 I am ordering a silencer for it next month. :P

Thanks for the ammo tips. I'm not giving up on her yet. The times it did work, it was really fun. I'll get some of that wally world ammo and clean/lube and go hit the range again.

I've had one for over a year and the only times it had failed was when the barrel nut came loose-use blue loctite, or the phillips head screw on the right side of the receiver came loose-use blue loctite.Mine love anything cci,but will shoot anything but federals. If the phillips head screw comes loose you will have all kinds of problems.

Also, no one has mentioned it, but there was a recall on mags at one point because of jamming problems. There is a certain letter on the "newer" mags. I can't think of which, as I don't own one, but my bro does. His has never had problems shooting while using CCI ammo, or Remmington "Golden Bullets". That is, unless it's had hundreds of rounds put through it between cleaning. .22LR can be dirty stuff and really jams up the action.
I retract my comment. Someone did mention the "updated" mags. |

We've shot a bunch of different ammo through my buddys P22, and it's been fine. We generally stick to CCI Stingers because we like the big muzzle flash.
