Help! Dad's first gun! Yay!

My dad is finally looking at getting his first gun! He loved the .380 Sig Sauer 232 in stainless with hogue grips that he rented at the range. He likes the XD "okay" but prefers this "feel" and likes the DA/SA. This gun is for range use only (mom says no guns in the house!) and price is a factor.

I was looking at maybe the Walther since I know it to be cheaper than the Sig. But what is the difference between the PPK and the PPK/S? The website is not too helpful. I believe I have read here that the Bersa Thunder is a clone of the PPK, is that correct?

Opinions and advice apreciated, please! I do not like .380 much, nor DA/SA triggers (no matter how much I practice, that first shot is always WAY off, so I do not consider this a "safe" gun for me to carry) so I don't know much about these guns. Please keep in mind that he wants it to feel similar to the Sig 232, but he can't afford the Sig. Also, he doesn't like the lack of a drop free mag and a slide lock, but he is willing to overlook these options if the deal is good. Plus, due to his lack of experience with ANY firearms, an easy fieldstrio would be nice too...

Feel free to ask me any questions that would help in your responses please!

I have a Bersa Thunder 380 and it's a great little gun.

Check into picking up a CPO (certified pre owned) Sig, they can be found in the $400.00 price range. www.cdnninvestments.com used to carry alot of them, I would guess that they still do. Maybe a 9mm for a range guns as its much cheaper than .380.

PPK and PPK/S are NOT very easy guns to shoot well. If he can't get the Sig, I'd also suggest a Bersa Thunder .380. It has a better beavertail that will help prevent the slide from tearing up the shooter's hand, and it is an excellent value for the money. I've had two, currently only have one. My best friend talked me out of my other one.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm having trouble finding used Sigs in good condition here in Vegas, though I'm not pounding the streets for one. Any other guns similar that I'm not thinking of?
