Cutting off exhaust

I wanna do it, but the problem is that I have my current si/do flowmaster welded in (crappy job too). I dont know how to weld/have access to welding equipment.

Further, I would like to be able to stick some sort of pipe on it, just in case I go into mud (and get stuck in water again)

I might also like to be able to quickly/simply (by quick I mean like 20 minutes) replace the muffler.

Thoughts?

Why do you want to cut them off? For the sound? If so, they make some sort of mechanical bypass (I think that is what they are called) that is inline with the muffler, installed just past the headers, that when open dump directly to atmosphere, but when closed go through muffler, perfect when going for state inspection or if required by law.

Be careful where how far you cut down as well. The engine needs some back pressure via exhaust or be prepared for some power/torque loss. Go with BigBinTexas's suggestion...

I've thought about electric cutouts (it'd be sweet to flick a switch while in my truck). However, like shown by the link, they're expensive.

Definitely go with a cutout. I know QTP does an electric one.

look at this cable operated
but please keep it attached to a pipe to the back of the vehicle. The exhaust fumes are hazardous to breath and you will be breathing them if they are being released under the vehicle

Why not just go with two Cherry Bombs? They're pretty loud and a straight through design. Totally legal, too.

As long as you are legal where you live to ditch the cat and run two pipes straight out the back - run two Cherry Bomb glasspacks. Easy job, too.

Unfortunately, we have emissions testing here in Houston and I have to keep the cats. I ran dual cats and dual Magnaflows on the 05 Tundra...sounds pretty good but not nearly as loud as the my old 350 with the Cherry Bombs.

I had them on my 78 Chevy truck back in high school...loud..but fun when you're sixteen!
