ALERT:Assault Weapons Ban and Law Enforcement Protection Act

Assault Weapons Ban and Law Enforcement Protection Act of 2005

Quote:
Assault Weapons Ban and Law Enforcement Protection Act of 2005 - Amends the Federal criminal code to reinstate the Public Safety and Recreational Firearms Use Protection Act's assault weapons ban to prohibit: (1) the manufacture, transfer, or possession of a semiautomatic assault weapon; (2) the transfer, possession, or importation of a large capacity ammunition feeding device; (3) the transfer of any assault weapon with such a device.

Specifies models and features of banned weapons.

Sets forth exceptions to such ban, including: (1) firearms or devices lawfully possessed under Federal law on the date of enactment of this Act; (2) any firearm that is manually operated by bolt, pump, lever, or slide action that has been rendered permanently inoperable or is an antique firearm; and (3) firearms manufactured for, transferred to, or possessed by a Federal, State, or local government agency or for law enforcement. Prohibits: (1) any person from transferring a semiautomatic assault weapon to which the ban does not apply, except through a licensed dealer or a State or local law enforcement agency; or (2) a licensed manufacturer, importer, or dealer who transfers a device manufactured before enactment of this Act to fail to certify such date of manufacture.

Requires the serial number of any weapon or device manufactured after the enactment of this Act to clearly show the date of manufacture.

Directs the Attorney General to: (1) maintain, submit to Congress, and make publicly available a record of any semiautomatic assault weapon used in relation to a crime; and (2) study and report to Congress on the effects of this Act on violent and drug trafficking crime.

Prohibits the transfer of such a weapon or device to a juvenile.

They are probably getting it ready for the election in 2008 in hopes that The Hildebeast is elected.

This is the reason I snatched up a new no-ban AR right after the old ban expired. Guess I should stock up on some more high cap pistol mags, they never go to waste anyways.

No surprises with the sponsor and co-sponsor.

It was referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee back in March and appears to still sit there.

Reading the page linked to in the original post made me MAD! . I am not a big fan of AR-15 but if it looks like this ban is going to go into effect I will be buying one and as many 30rd magazine I can afford. Ignorant people make me very very angry. The Dem's are always yakking about civil liberties but they pick and choose which Civil liberties they want to defend. My Civil Liberty to keep and Bears arms does not seem to count.

Can anyone give me a good reason WHY THEY ARE NOT A MEMBER OF THE NRA? This is the kind of stuff that drives me nuts, and the only body capable of defeating this is the NRA. We can no longer count on the Republican party to defeat such a measure, without the pressure of a large group.

When they authorized this garbage in 1994 the dems were rewarded with a serious loss of congressional seats by the people they pissed off with it. Are they really gonna line up to run and impale themselves on the spears again?

"Public safety" my arse...

Luckly I sold all of my guns, just about 5 minutes ago. No need to even come by my place and look.

This is true, but then you have the whole disenchantment-with-Iraq issue to balance things out. It's hard to say whether or not the Republican party is going to suffer due to the negative perceptions of the current White House. Guess we'll find out in 06. I, for one, will never vote for someone who has a demonstrable anti-gun stance, regardless of affiliation.

I want to reiterate Old School's call for NRA membership. This crap is getting out of hand.

Please join if you're not already a member. Please tell your shooting pals to join, and it wouldn't hurt if you signed your wife or girlfriend or dad. Please pass this along on any other gun forums you may be a member of.

It costs a little more than a box of ammo - a VERY cheap date in my opinion.

Somehow we need to convince these senators that WE, honest law abiding gun owners, aren't the problem (and don't MAKE it a problem... sell your guns responsibly gentlemen!) Don't let these politicians pick up votes on our dime. End of rant... Thank you.
