Chalk one up for the good guys!!!

A guy here in Collierville (suburb of Memphis) "tagged and bagged" a BG early Sat morning. Collierville is, for the most part, an middle to upper-middle class suburb. From the "last known residence" mentioned in the article this guy didn't come from one of the better parts of town.

Home intruder killed in C'ville
There were others, but they scattered when the owner fired

By Andre Cherry
December 19, 2005

A Collierville homeowner shot and killed one of several people who broke into his house early Saturday, police said.

The group forced its way through a back door of the Brian Harper home at 1376 Panola Cove, setting off a security alarm, Lt. Greg Flint said.

The 3:45 a.m. alarm awakened Harper, who shot one of the intruders with a .45-caliber handgun. The dead man was identified from fingerprints as 28-year-old Lakim Duffy.

Flint said Harper fired several shots, and it was not known if he hit anyone else. None of the invaders fired a weapon, but police do not know if any of them was armed, Flint said.

Authorities had no current address for Duffy, but he lived in the 2200 block of South Parkway East in late 2004, according to court records.

Since 1998 Duffy has been arrested for criminal trespass, especially aggravated robbery, possession of cocaine, especially aggravated robbery and criminal trespass.

The other invaders fled south on foot and were still at large. Flint said Harper was unable to tell them how many people broke into his home. Also, "it was very dark so we don't have solid descriptions of the suspects," Flint said.

No one in the family was injured. It was unknown late Sunday who else was home at the time.

The four-bedroom Harper home is in the Estanaula Trails neighborhood in southernmost Collierville -- south of Bill Morris Parkway and near the intersection of Holmes and Byhalia roads. Schilling Farms Middle School is nearby.

Anyone with information can call the Collierville Police Department at 457-2520.

Flint said Harper declined to be interviewed by The Commercial Appeal.

One of Harper's neighbors in the cove, Paul Taylor, 34, said Sunday night he has seen an increase in the number of people "who cruise the neighborhood who don't belong. ... It just goes to show you that we can't take what we have for granted, that we have to be especially vigilant around Christmastime."

I'll bet the other BG's that were with him don't break into any more homes for awhile. I'm sure someone will whine and cry how an unarmed man was shot to death and how it could have been avoided had the homes owner just let them take what they wanted. Sheeple...

Well I wasn't their I can say... I personally wouldn't want to shoot and unarmed person (or armed for that matter). However the second they threatened any loved ones they better be named neo.

Yes but the other side of the coin is, he said it was dark, how are you supposed to know if the guy is armed. Are we to ask them? Or wait for their muzzle flash?

I for one would have done the same given the facts stated. Just a thought.

Ditto....I've said it before, the only one in my house at night is my spouse and I....anyone else would have had to break in, and therefore I will assume they are there with a lack of regard for my health and well-being, and will shoot them on sight if I even remotely think they could be armed. If the Bg was a kid, I might think just a little longer before pulling the trigger, but if you can't handle the consequences of your actions, then make better choices!

Don't get me wrong, I have no desire to find an excuse to shoot anyone, but the BG(s) made the decision for me when they forcibly entered my home in the middle of the night.

This is a subject that drives me nuts...we have people in society, and here on this board, that want to find an excuse to allow the BG to get away from accepting consequences, or they think that there is something redeemable and therefore want to "give them another chance". Most of these guys lauigh at the sheeple and know they can get away with just about anything.

It's time WE the PEOPLE stand up for our rights to be secure in our homes, and in society in general; accept the fact that the courts have held that we have NO EXPECTATION of protection from police, and take control of our lives and safety.

The buck stops here. Enter my house in the middle of the night and you will likely leave in a body bag....the only question will be who shot you, my darling bride or me!

===>stepping off my soapbox to reload my mags with spent nuclear fuel tipped, body exploding ammo.

It boggles my mind that they publish the name and address of the homeowner in these cases.

Considering where the fact that they "forcibly" entered the house, that indicates at least 2 things that justified a shooting 1.) they broke the law (indicating that breaking others killing you wasn't out of the question), and 2.) they had means sufficient to overwhelm the modes holding the entry points closed. I don't care if all they had was a crow-bar, if they "broke" in, that's it you know they have something. Either size sufficient to come through the door, or a weapon sufficient for overcoming the door.

Down here the cops usually don't even give the media your name.

Sounds like he did what he had to. Why is a guy with that long of a rap sheet on the street. And the posting of name and address really chaps my ass!
