Cheap shooting with wax bullets!!

For the past two weeks I've been working on this super secret project, and I've only barely been able to restrain myself from posting it. But finally, here it is!

I've got a full tutorial on my website (here's the link), as well as a downloadable PDF version of the tutorial and a video of me owning the cans!

You owe it to yourself to check this out and try it at least once. Tell me what you think, and if you see something that needs to be changed or fixed, just let me know.

do u suggest "Carrying" these bullets? for like the non leathal approach?

such as in situations where:
mcdonalds stops serving breakfast 1 min before u get there?
or
Someone cuts u off in traffic?

what the barrel look like when ur done?
ever think of loading jelly beans and shooting them into ur friends
mouths?

ps. love ur braclet.. when is the how-to for one of those?

YOU NAY SAYER! WHY DON'T YOU INVENT SOMETHING NEW? YOU SIT IN YOUR TOWER!!!

:P No, of course I wouldn't suggest carrying these for self defense -- all they'll do is piss someone off. The barrel just has a thin layer of black stuff in it when you're done -- no biggie.

The bracelet is actually a loop of cord that we use when aerotowing hang gliders -- it's a weak link. If forces get outside of the normal operating range when towing a glider up, the loop will break. Useful, because most of the time when you're in a situation that'll break the loop, you're also in a situation that is unrecoverable and has you plummeting towards the ground wingtip first in a stall. I just had an extra and tied it around my wrist a few years ago -- still there.

I've used wax loads for years w/ revolvers. Just another way to get new shooters to not flinch when the "bang" occurs. I've never drilled out the primer hole tho. I have reused teh brass w/ normal loads afterwards, but I've found 15 min. in the oven on a cookie sheet gets a lot of the residual wax off the brass.

This is a very imformative tutorial, thank you.
If you have a .22 caliber high powered rifle, you can drill out the primer pocket with a 1/4" drill and push in a shotgun primer and then load a .22 airgun pellet into the case mouth with finger pressure.
You can also just use a regular rifle primer too.

If you have a larger rifle, you can cast roundballs to the bore diameter and load the same way. In a .30 caliber rifle, it helps to add 1 grain of Bullseye powder to the case.

Thanks for the info. I was thinking about trying a rifle cartridge with a very, very light charge of fast burning powder to see what would happen with the wax.

Do you think that if you only put 1 grain of powder in a case it might have problems igniting with all the dead space?

That was a nice demo - I'm impressed at how quickly you were reloaded and back on target w/ a single-shot semi!

I'm intrigued by this - I've never done any reloading at all, nor heard a gun shot with just primer. Are you saying that this is quiet/safe enough to shoot in your backyard? (Or is your backyard far enough from your neighbors' so you don't worry?)

Nope, it will ignite but you dont want to use more than 1-2 grains. The sound level will be on par with an air rifle. Some guys on a reloading forum im a member of do this ALOT.

Thanks! I was actually kind of impressed myself when I went back and watched the video for the first time. It felt soooo sloooow when I was doing it in real life.

Yes, I am indeed saying that this is quiet and safe enough to shoot in your back yard, even in a neighborhood. Think cap gun or powerful air rifle. Keep in mind that even though it's quiet, your neighbors can still see you. :P That's something to think about if you do go out back for some plinking - don't get the cops called on you because your neighbors are scared of your gun shaped piece of metal. My back yard is out in the middle of nowhere for the most part, but I'd still have no problems shooting these in a suburban area.

Oh, and itchy, you've given me something to do today when I get home. Thanks for the info.
