You can't let a job eat you up inside. Stress of this sort leads to a lot of health issues later in life and trouble at home, trust me I know. You aren't being paid overtime to worry about work at home. I bet your boss isn't thinking about the chewing out he gave someone over and over again at home. (God I sound like my Dad, hey, thats a good idea for a new thread) Anyway,

An outlet like this forum is a good stress reducer. Going to the range and shooting an XD (about 500 rounds should do it) is better.

That concludes tonights Sermon.

I feel your pain and good luck.

beware, it's not only burning bridges, but a couple of these items listed here could be considered vandalism (beach scene), libelistic (esp. if you give a customer a false reason for your suggesting taking their business elsewhere), and just plain unwise.

I've been terminated, I've been laid off, I've quit w/ 2 weeks, and I've walked out mid shift. All I can say is CYA. Document everything and keep it secure, and if you need to use it to cover your escape to make it quietly and make sure your exit paperwork is in order before leaving.

Good luck w/ however you decide to handle it. My suggestion is write up your complaints about your current boss, and include them all in your resignation letter which you can deliver whenever you wish, but make sure to deliver it to his boss or 2 levels up, and don't forget to make mention of contacting a lawyer to investigate the possibility of a hostile work environment lawsuit. If nothing else, they will likely expend considerable time and energy trying to hide/destroy/cover anything they can to keep it from being subpoenaed and be used against them by your lawyer. I've watched it happen and caused it to happen when I left my last part time gig. Was fun to hear all the crap they did to/with the mgm't staff after i left.

If you burn it, you may screw someone else that you work WITH who may end up screwing you in the end on a future employment or biz opp.

I`ve been reprimanded several times for pointing out what a worthless,
know nothing,pompous,jack@§§ P.O.S. my direct boss is.He gets all
b*tt hurt for a few days, then back to normal. Then maybe he will try
to shave a few hours off my time and networking bonus.I then make
it a point to be seen copying my time cards, and bonus sheets to let
him know I am watching. To hell with em.If they don`t like it they can
fire me.Some times I take days off to do side jobs so I can get by.
Who knows it may be the best thing that ever happended to me.
After 4½ years without a raise or healthcare or anything it tends to make
you bitter. Then to piss me off some more the company hires new people
for 40k with benefits and never offers me anything.G0damn my job suxz.
I guess it could be worse.

Great stories guys. I too am currently self employed and it is pretty good. No such thing as 9-5 however. It is real difficult to get fired for us, basiclly you have to steal or find a way to make customers complain.

Fired one tech who had been messing up for a while (customers began to complain), one day he calls for his appointments ...and at about noon his 9am appointment calls looking for him. Secretary calls looking for him and no answer...he calls back and tells her that he is sick and not coming in...at 12:30pm. That was one of those incidents where I had to pull two right ups out of one day, but he fired himself anyway.

I have only had to fire two people. One for cause (the above guy) and one that was ruled to be without cause (lack of documentation as far as the state was concerened). That was when I went to office depot and bought write up slips (and review slips).

I was almost ill after the first time I fired someone. I have been layed off before and it was crappy. I have always worked hard, and got layed off because I made the most in my department. The offical reason was their was no work (a computer company in 1999 ...yeah right). At the time I was married and my first son was 6 months old, and I went to college at night. I was fired at 5pm on Friday (just like in office space), went home my wife looked at me and she knew and the first thing she asked was if I had been fired and I said yup. I later joined up with a local IT company and bought my way into it. I just graduated from Tulane University with a degree in Computer Information Systems, and a minor in Business. Turn around time was 5 years. It can be done just don't listen to other people that tell you you can't do something.
