They were supposedly looking for a DA 45 semi-auto I'm sure with H&K providing the future weapons platforms XM-8 series =, I'd look for them to get the contract.

Can't or won't? I fully believe that Colt, SA, Kimber, etc. CAN, but as long as it's acceptable for them not to, why bother?

I wouldn't think that it would. I'd say HK or Sig gets the nod.

Wasn't the XM-8 program scrapped?

I believe that the current reputation of 1911's being unreliable is because of the push from the consumer to push the tolerance limits, getting a tighter and tighter gun. The tighter a gun gets, the less reliable it becomes. If Kimber was making 1911's as sloppy (not sloppy in a bad way, but in terms of tolerances) as an older Colt*, they wouldn't be nearly as unreliable.

Although I'm not entirely sure that current production 1911's deserve the reputation they're getting right now, kinda like the XD/rust reputation. Just my opinion...

* This is a comparison between my Kimber and my dad's Colt. Grab the Kimber, rattle it back and forth - silent. Grab the Colt, rattle it, you hear parts moving on the inside.

It's on indefinite hold, meaning yes its scrapped. They cited the lack of modularity, i.e. they want the new rifle to be part of a family which includes a replacement for the SAW and possibly the M240B. I'm thinking political pressure had a little do with it, too.

SOCOM has already outfitted Marine First Det. with the Kimber Warrior. I bought one and it is one fine pistol. Deadly accurate out of the box.

the 1911 is a fine pistol

but I have heard form the sand box that the fine sand and dust is causing real problems with the 1911 platform

that being said the person I spoke to is a true 1911 believer

his comment was that the dust is really fouling things up

2 cents
