I'm thinking about a new .45 auto......

I'm thinking about either a higher priced 1911 (STI, Springer TRP or MC OP or maybe another Para), or a Sig P220.

If I were to get the 220, it'd most likely be a CPO that I would send in for a DAO trigger, night sights and then off to ajames for a coat job.

This isn't going to happen any time soon, since it's going to cost me $1000+ to get this done.

Of course when the .45 auto XD comes out, that'll set me back again.

Thoughts?

In most of my reading it seems that the 220 is generally flawless out of the box, accuracy truly dependent on the shooter.

1911s seem to generally be amazing as well, but there seems to be some owners who never could get "in tune" with their 1911s or just didnt like them...

Thats a tough choice, imho.

Yeah, very tough choice. I've owned a Sig P220, Para LTC, and still own a Colt Combat Target and Sistema. The reason I'm looking at the higher end 1911's is to avoid troubles of the "cheaper" guns. That and it's going to be about the same amount either way I go.

Had I not sold my Sig in a fit of passion, I wouldn't be in this position.

I just got both a SIG 220R and a Springfield "Loaded" 1911 (two very good used pistol deals in a week.)

I like them both. Both are very accurate. Both have a really sweet single action trigger (1911 is slightly ahead here.) Both feel very comfortable in my fairly large hands, though the SIG, with Hogue wraparounds, feels better. The SIG is a little lighter and seems to conceal a little better, though I need to get a couple good IWB holsters made up for both of them.

I was able to hold 2" groups at 15 yards with both pistols shooting offhand, which is very good for me and better than I can do with any of the XDs (really need to get that XD trigger job done!)

Either is a great choice. If I had to chose just one, I would probably go with the SIG (but it would be very close.) I can fully endorse the Springfield 1911 line as well, and if you shop around, you can get a Springer 1911 Mil-Spec for about the same as a CPO Sig,

Note- If you get the SIG, get good mags. There are some crappy Pro Mag 8 rd mags floating around and they SUCK. I bought a set last weekend and, after 3 trips to the range, the feed lips are already screwed up. Buy SIG factory Mags or Novak mags. Of course, the same could be said for any pistol...

Well, now that I've found out that Sig discontinued my favorite 9mm, the P228, the .45 is on hold. My local shop has a few 228's and I'm going to have to go snag one before they are gone.

So, looks like another 9mm for me.

Why rush out and buy a 228 when the 229 is now available in 9mm, and has a nitron slide? Some say the 228 feels a little better, but I dont see how this can be as they are pretty much the EXACT same gun..?

What kind of pricing are you looking at for 228s? I have seen the pricing all over the board recently...($500-$800) If you want to know some cheaper spots, let me know..

I really like the 228 for some reason. I don't know, it just does it for me. I've got my eye on one right now for $500.

The 228 is very close to the 229, however, if I am to buy a 229, it has to be one with a DAK trigger. I really don't like the grip on the standard 229's, feels like they bottle neck to me because of the decocker.

I dunno, I'm going to go give a 228 a good lookin' over tomorrow just to make sure it's what I want.

The 229 slide is machined from bar stock stainless and the 228 is stamped, rolled and welded. The 229 is a heavier gun and slightly bigger. I wouldnt mind having a 228 myself, its a classic 9mm Sig.

jetsiphon, tell me about the Para LTC. Do you still own it? What attracted you to it and if you do not still have it, why did you get rid of it?

I am thinking on another gun in the near future and love the LDA trigger on my C7-45.

Buy a stainless TRP. 220's are nice, but NOTHING shoots like a nice 1911.
