I don't know then - I guess I must have been lucky quite bit in my outings. I never had an animal go a 1/4 mile after a shot. Of course, it could be because I stopped hunting a long time ago and just don't have as much experience as those on this forum. However, I still maintain that these shows should have the best of the best.

Disclaimer - for those anti-hunting advocates, please don't pick up on my statement that I stopped hunting. I strongly support those that hunt. However I haven't hunted since I got married since my wife won't eat what I kill. There are many benefits to hunting - keeps the population controlled, you get a good amount of meat that saves on groceries, it provides times with family that memorable (e.g., I will never forget the outings & teachings with my dad), you get to enjoy the outdoors, and the list goes on.

I have also had a deer drop right where it stood, and the only major structure that was hit was the top of the heart.

maybe a little off topic, but anyone seen the people who hunt online? The company that does it says its for "disabled" people who aren't able to actually hunt. They place huts with automated rifles and the user can aim and take a shot from anywhere...litterally anywhere there is internet connection. So...i'm not a hunter, but what do you hunters think about it?

A. The weapons are not Automatic.
B. They are not in a hut, it is a Rifle on a gimble that you control with your mouse via your internet connection.
C. Only one Company is doing this that I know of.
D. Said Company does not do it for "Disabled" people, it for anyone who has the money to pay for it.

A. yeah...I didn't say the guns are automatic...i said automated, i.e. they have the ability to be controlled remotely.

B. The one I saw was in a hut. what is a gimble?

C. There might be others?

D. And i said that the company said they do it for disabled, but i'm sure they take anyones $$$.

sounds retarded to me. I had a disabled friend who participated in Handicapped hunting outings. They went out to the woods, shot from wheel chairs or seats with bench rests. Hunting online with a computer mouse really shouldn't be referred to as hunting. Maybe "remote control killing?"

That's ridiculous. I hope the company fails.

After spending about 20 years working in a gun shop selling guns to hunters I can say for sure that the vast majority of deer hunters can not shoot. They don't even understand the simple basics of marksmanship.

I will sell them a rifle and mount the scope for them.
I will boresight the scope and they take it strait from the store to the woods to hunt.

They miss a deer because their rifle is not zeroed and because they are idiots and they come back and blame me for it.
Even many of the really good hunters can't shoot. They know woods craft and are good hunters but they average shooting about 20 rounds a year.

They kill deer at less than 50 yards and it does not take much of a shooter to do this.

I have watched one or two of those hunting programs, too and wondered how these guys can shoot whitetails at distances that look at or near 100yds (or less), with rifles in the 30-06 power class and the deer runs a good 25-50 yards after being hit.

Huh? Every deer (and a few other hearty critters, like aoudad sheep) that I have hit with my 30-06 or 270 Win, form those distances either drops in its tracks or maybe takes 2-3 steps, then collapses. Hell, the last 8 point whitetail I took was with my Savage 99 in 243 and it was just under 100yds (paced off) and the thing dropped like a wet dish rag.

Either these guys are not hitting them right or not using a good bullet. I have always tried for heart/lung shots and use either Nosler Ballistic Tips or Nosler Partition bullets.

Maybe these guys need some practice or better bullet selsctions? I dunno.
