Video Game question

My wife and I will be buying Christmas presents for 3 children in a needy family selected through an "angel tree" program at the wife's work.

One of the children, a girl age 7, has requested a game for her Playstation II.

I am not of the video game culture, I know nothing about them. PERIOD

I would appreciate any suggestions for an appropriate Playstation II game for a 7 year old girl.

I assume these things can be purchased at WalMart?

Thanks, bd

7 year-old girl?

Something like this:

http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/product/258058.asp

Or maybe something from the DanceDanceRevolution series. There are also some karaoke games out, too.

Tough to find things for young kids on PS2. It's marketing and game development is focused mostly to teen-age boys.

Walmart has tons of good PS2 games for $20, many for kids as well.

I would recommend Shrek 2, Finding Nemo, SpongeBob, something along those lines. All $20 at WallyWorld.

Just make sure you DON'T buy anything that says Grand Theft Auto on it.

7 is a tough age for PS2 games. One game that has received rave reviews that would probably be right up her alley is the game counterpart to the new Chronicles of Narnia movie. I played it with my eight year old niece and she absolutely loved it.

Basically, it's a straight-forward action game. Collect the coins, destroy the barriers, kick the wolves, etc. It has about 35 minutes of movie clips from the movie, which is quite nice for a game that was released a full month before the movie.

You also might consider another movie-based game, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. I plan on buying it for my niece for Christmas. It received mediocre reviews, though, so you might want to stick with Narnia if at all possible. It's a good, clean game, enjoyable at both 8 and 80!

DDR, Dance Dance Revolution, not only is it a good game, its a great workout. If you can swing it get her two dance pads for it, our kids jump on those things for hours at a time and get all sweated up and the best part is they sleep well that night!! You also won't have to worry about contribution to the fat kid with sore thumbs syndrome!!

Dance Dance is awesome! Also, the iToy games are fun, if not a bit difficult and picky.

There's a game, it's called Katamari Damaci. I've never played it, but apparently it's a very addictive game where the point is to roll a sticky ball around and accumulate stuff. It doesn't seem violent or hard to me -- if I had a PS2, I'd definitely look into it. Maybe that's a possiblity?

Check out game reviews at www.gamespy.com and www.gamespot.com .

Although I don't like the books or movies, I would suggest something from the Hairy Potter line. My fiance likes the Prisoner of . Got it at Walmart for about $20 which might let you get something else to go with it dependant on oyur price point and it's a best seller, never seen any of the others in action. www.ebgames.com has a good list and sometimes provides reviews that might help you narrow it down. If you could somehow get a list of what she already has it might help too, but I don't know the chances of that.

Only right winger buy from Walmart.

I think most games have ratings on them.
