Need advice on a carry gun for the fiance

Guys. I bought a XD9sc for the fiance and she loves to shot it. She is pretty accurate too. However, she claims that its too heavy to carry in her purse so she won't carry it. Bad for her, good for me, because now I have two XD's .40sc & 9sc. She wants a supper light gun to carry. What recommendations do you guys have, if any?

My wife wanted to carry in her purse too until some things were pointed out.
1. The trigger must be protected in a purse ful of loose things.
2. What happens if someone grabs the purse from her?
3. You can draw faster from the body.
4. Purse are not always in your immediate control like something is on your body.

I know this was not an answer to your question but I was just trying to point a few things out. In getting back to your question, Check out a smaller polymer gun like a Kahr PM9 or maybe a titanium .38 snubby.

The S&W Scandium revolvers are very light and very strong as well. Beyond that, ichy's got it right. I'd go for the kahr personally--excellent guns, and VERY VERY thin. Tiny single-stack 9mm with a polymer frame is going to make for a very lightweight and concealable weapon.

I tried to talk my wife into one, but she just can't seem to put down her Sig P232.

Not to flame or criticize but a .22 is a very poor choice for self defense. Think back to how many times you have pulled the trigger on a .22 round and it did not fire. the primer mixture is poured into the empty case and sometimes its not positioned properly as it cures. This is what causes misfires in .22's and they are very common.

Just a question here...not an attack of any sort (disclaimer out of the way!).

Would you carry a .22 caliber for personal protection? While any gun is better than no gun at all, I would truly consider something with a bit more heft to it.
Personally, I would not want my wife carrying a pistol with suspect stopping power.

While I am a big proponent of shot placement, even good shot placement with a .22 may not be enough to stop a dangerous encounter.

That said, I think the kel tec p32 is a capable pistol, but am looking at one of the S&W airweight/scandium revolvers for my own personal carry (when I don't have my Para 1911).
The .38 +p or .357 round is very potent.

In defense of a .22--who wants to get shot with one? I didn't think so. Besides, a hit with a .22 is vastly better than a miss with a 9mm, .40 or even a .50 AE.

That said, would I carry a .22? Given a choice, no. It has very little stopping power, and if you have a very determined attacker, you're in trouble. If your attacker isn't so determined, or if you can make a head shot, you'll be fine.

I've heard that .32 is the bare minimum for personal defense, but why not at least move up to a .380? Bersa Thunder, Sig P232 or Walther PPK are all great players and easy to carry.

Nod as well to the Kel-Tec P3AT. No first hand experience myself (disclaimed! ), but they seem to be quite popular.

First hand on the Keltec, just make sure she spends time at the range so she knows what to exepct (God forbid) she ever has to use it...

As far as a P22, I love my wife's, I take it to the range for some fun once in a while...

I'm a fan of revolvers for ladies, for a few reasons. Don't get me wrong, there are women out there that do train with their guns and are damned good, however, most aren't into them like us guys are. With a revolver, they don't have to worry about clearing a FTF or FTE. If for some reason it doens't go bang, all they have to do is pull the trigger again. Not to mention revolvers are smaller and lighter than semi autos.
