First Hand Glock KB!
1-I am not a Glock hater, but I just wanted to share this. I was at my range with my G23 and some Federal 155gr HydraShok factory loads when it happened. The classic 6 o'clock rupture. It blew the mag out of the well, the extractor went off to parts unknown. Once I got the slide unstuck the caserim was gone also but the remainder of the case was lodged in the chamber. My hands were red and hurting but alright. My pants had no stains, front or back
The gun, other than needing a new extractor and having the case removed is in working order. I think I'll stick to my XDs from now on. ![]()

Glocks once on top are now turning into old technology.

PLEASE notify Glock and have them check it out before you deem it "in woorking order". There may be microscopic cracks that you cannot see with the naked eye. If it blew up using regular ammo, and nothing is fishy, they will pay for everything just to cover their collective asses.
I do have to ask if the ammo had been chambered in the gun more than once. I've seen .40 S&W Hydra-Shok ammo set back in the case with just a couple chamberings of a round. It's kind of spooky if you ask me. Other than that, I like the ammo, but I switched to Gold Dots for that reason alone, and haven't seen the same type of setback.

Glad you were not hurt badly. I had my own KB experience here recently when I fired a double charged 40S&W (my own fault on that) in my Smith and Wesson 610 revolver. KB's are unpleasant for any reason. I second the sending it back to the manufacture for a checkup. I did so with my 610 and Smith and Wesson gave it a thorough check up and test firing, I'm sure Glock would do similar for you. Better safe than sorry.

Wow...I have always heard NOT to buy a Glock in 40SW.
This seems to happen more often than the stories you hear about Beretta slide separations, doesn't it? - Brickboy240

The gun has been checked thoroughly. The ammo was not rechambered repeatedly. It was headstamped FC instead of Federal which I learned was suspect ammo because it was manufactured with a design defect in the web area(read thin walls). Which in an unsupported chamber can, well you see what can happen. Federal redesigned the cases of the .40 and strengthened the web area and started stamping the cases Federal to denote the difference. I had the older boxes. So be careful. In .40, if it says FC, don't use it in a Glock. Its ok in other guns or aftermarket barrels.

"they" (see GT'ers) say that the "unsupported" chamber is a myth, and that the "cutout" at 6 o'clock is the reason that glocks are so reliable w/ such a variety of ammo.
I tend to agree w/ this, but I have had no problems w/ my XD (1400 rds) and would rather know my weapon is not going to blow up on me. It seems there is a trade-off here and some people would like to be able to shoot whatever, and some want to keep their hands. JMTC |
