Have to +1 this. I was thinking the same thing while reading the first 3 posts. Although I will say I probably will end up buying one for the Mrs. She loves my XD9SC so the XDs9 would get me my sub-compact back.

The XD-S 45 ACP is a truly unique gun in that it merges 21st century innovations in advanced polymer frame, striker fired handguns with the older 1911 frame single stack design resulting in light weight perfectly concealable weapon with the powerful ballistics of the 45 ACP. A one of a kind gun in today's market (soon to be copied by others I'm sure).

The new XD-S 9 mm is a mystery to me however. LAST TIME I CHECKED, 9MM ROUNDS WERE ABOUT 20% THINNER THAN 45 ACP. So in keeping with the innovative spirit of the line, a single stack XD-S 9mm itself should be roughly 20% thinner than the 45, resulting in an even more concealable weapon yet. This is obviously not what has happened. I don't want to say that Springfield was lazy with ths gun - but they were. A 9mm XD-S should be sized more closely to a modern .380 auto, not a 45. Instead I undestand that Springfield up-sized some components like the barrel to fit the thicker slide. In other words, if one CC's an XD-S 9mm you are carrying around extra material put there by the designers to make the gun bigger than it actually needs to be. Just doesn't sit well with me.
Fwiw, I agree. Then again, you can bet they will sell plenty of these...I have not fired the xds, but I'm guessing the recoil would not be much less in 9mm, though the perception might be.

can't blame springfield though, can you? Now they have a direct competitor with the slimness comparable to the likes of the pps, the little kahrs, and the LC ruger series (though with a better trigger than most of them)

I have a pps in 9mm and I love it, so the xds 9 probably won't be on the short list for future purchases (went with the xdm 3.8 45 in lieu of the xds)

I'm guessing that you won't be the only man in such a situation...Springfield is counting on it. Pus, admit it, it's a GREAT excuse to buy another firearm, regardless.

I have a XD9sc which is almost identical to my XD-s in height and length, but width, there is a significant difference when trying to conceal. I love my XD9sc with its thirteen round flush's and full mag extensions, but I can easily see a XDS9 fitting in. There is market out there.

I have the xd9sc and the xdmcompact. Love them both but I must say, the Glock 30s does have my attention. Maybe a little more than the new xds 9mm. I don't really like glocks overall but have always thought the glock 30 was a great shooter. We will see.

Springfield wanted a gun to match with the "very popular" S&W Shield in 9mm plain and simple! You still can't find a Shield anywhere, when these start coming out in full production they'll sell like hot cakes.

The effect this has is also to lower the price of all accessories, and make it easier for aftermarket manufacturers to accommodate the firearm. Think about it, if you only need ONE holster for a .45, .40, or 9mm XD-S, that's going to significantly drive down the price inherent in the variability of accessories.

An extra two rounds is nice, bringing the overall capacity to 7+1 ... that extra space isn't going to waste!

Finally, it's WAY easier to control the recoil on a well-balanced, properly-sized sidearm. Chambered in 9mm and weighted appropriately for the round, yet large enough to get a nice grip on... I'm really excited for this.

I'm saving my pennies now. If you buy one and you hate it, I'll help you ease the pain for a fair price...
