First time buying outside a gun shop - *************
Hi, i'm brand new here, hopefully this is in the right area, feel free to move it.
I have my XDM 9mm 4.5" sor sale/trade on ************* I want to sell, and re-buy the same gun in the 3.8" compact version for easier concealment. I got interest from someone, who says they hold an FFL and is out of my homestate of WI. I agreed to the deal of trading mine, towards his +$100. Is there any way to verify if someone is legit that holds an FFL? I emailed him asking for reassurance on this whole process, and also asked if he has a storefront or anything.
I just get a funny feeling sending someone $100, and then shipping out my $600 gun. Any help or direction would be appreciated!

Have him send his ffl info to you. Why are you sending him 100$? If anything it should be an even trade.
I think there is a site where you can search for ffls

+1
Having an FFL holder supply a copy of their license is standard operating procedure for transfers. If he balks at all at providing a copy of his FFL, I'd pass.

P.S. Stealing a firearm is a federal felony
Get it in writing before ANY money exchanges hands, and yes...thru a FFL (with a little FFL payment for shipping) is the best way
You give your gun to FFL, he gives his gun to FFL, guns get shipped and document trail, then you go sign for pistol, if he is the FFL...get his credentials first

You can also get a listing of all FFLs in a state directly from the ATF. My post count isn't high enough to allow the inclusion of a URL, so please add the missing period and paste this into your browser.

Thanks for all the info here, it's appreciated. I only ask all this, because i've never bought a firearm outside a shop before.
So if I look over his FFL credentials, i have a good chance that it's all legit? Should I still do some sort of bill of sale as well, or is that overkill since i'm going through said FFL.
Also, if he's a legit FFL holder, should I find a local FFL in my area to take my current gun to, and to receive my new gun from?
Again, thanks for the help here!!

I've had my listing at my local car club, on *************, and a few other places with ZERO interest in trading equal for my 4.5". The local shops, after all is said and done, trading in my less than 20 rounds fired and purchased earlier this year XDM, I would need to cough up around $220. Which I completely understand that local shops need to make money too. I figured $100 is fair for the same gun, with about the same very light usage.
Unless someone on here is in the same boat as me and would like to trade? Feel free to PM me.

IMO a BOS is worthless in any situation.
and I would take it to an ffl to send to him.
and yes he will send his gun to an ffl for you to pick up.
