Reloading for the XDs
Anyone here reload for their XDs? If you do, do you have a favorite "short barrel" recipe? I had loaded a bunch for my 4" & 5" guns but never have come up with nor read about something for a 3".

I use the same handloads that I developed for my longer barrel 45's. They feed and fire in the XDS fine. If you are going for exterme accuracy, you might want to fine tune them in your gun for the shorter barrel. Other than that just shoot what you already have loaded.

Today I shot almost all reloads and they were the same loads I shoot in my 5" SA 1911 and my 3" Kimber 1911.
I only adjust the load to suit the particular bullet type that I am using.
Mostly I load with the Bayou 200gr SWC. It feeds in every .45 I own and makes a perfect big hole in the target which is great for competition.
Today I shot all my loads using W231 powder and amount varied between 5.2 and 5.8 grns. The 5.2 were very pleasant to shoot in the 3.3 XDs. You might could even go lower for softer recoil as long as it still functions well.

my xds uses the same loads as my full size 1911 and uzi 45acp--one size fits all!
i have been using fmj but will use cast lead on the next trip. so far--no issues at all--i pull the trigger and bang! i am not looking for long range accuracy--just 3-5-7 yds with an occasional 10 yard mixed in. as that's what the xds is designed for.

Here's mine:
6.5 gr power pistol + 230 gr zero jhp + 1.225" OAL + mixed range brass I picked up some of which I'm very familiar with, oh it's you again works very well with both my sig 1911 and xds. power pistol is loud and makes a big ball of fire, perfect for tiny pocket rockets like the sa xds and kahr pm9 and very accurate on the sig 1911 TTT.

My load for my full size 1911's work great in my XDS.
5.1gr of W231 behind a 230gr RN Berrys Plated, 1.260" - for plinking.
I'm not a real precision shooter, so I look for loads that work well in all my guns of that caliber rather than fine tuning a load for a specific gun. Just me though.

185gr plated SWC 4gr Bullseye. Works like a charm. Extremely accurate.

Once I get the time, I will definitely be play with OAL and case length. Hopefully to find out where the failure to return to battery starts.

For range practice, I have settled on 4.3 grains of Titegroup, over a Hornady 230 FMJ bullet. Soft shooting, accurate, and runs flawlessly. Clean as well.
