Third outing for the XDS

After a thorough clean and lube I took my XDS back for another session today. Fired about 100 rounds of Federal FMJ and had one failure to fire (light strike) about halfway through. I thought I may have limp wristed or dragged the slide (I tend to shoot with a high thumbs-forward grip) so I concentrated for the rest of the session on maintaining a solid and slide-friendly grip. No other issues.

This was a gun that had about 6 or 7 FTF's in the first session and 2 or 3 in the second, so either it or me are improving

You have the right attitude, John. Sounds like things are moving in the right direction for you. I really try not to read too much into the first session with a new gun. All I want to do is get a feel for it. Problems I encounter that first session I assume either I am to blame or the gun just needs to be shot more. Maybe just luck, but I've never had a bad gun - although some have had less than stellar first sessions.

Thanks Wolf. I have 3 other XDs but this is a very different animal. I love the gun though. I'm sure it's going to be fine.

kga943 - I have not inspected for damage. I did clean out the striker channel.

if it still has a few issues after the next 200 rounds or so i'd consider sending it back to the mothership to have it looked over. Seems like it is starting to break in so hopefully you won't have any issues at your next range trip!

I like to shoot different brands and types of ammo through mine during breakin. Cheap Blazer, some Rem and some Winchester white box along with some hollow points along the way, then 25 rds of my preferred carry ammo towards the end of the breakin, usually Fed HS (but many others brands are fine also). So far after more than a few guns I've broken in I can say I have been lucky and rarely had a problem (except for my Sig 238 which I have since traded in after Sig repaired it and do not have any .380s at this time). Just sayin try it with several different brands of ammo from time to time if you encounter problems. I tend to stay away from the bulk inported FMJ ammo, just my feelings though, as some have reported it is dirty and inconsistent.
