XDs performance in a realistic shoot house scenario -
My second class at my favorite gun ranges shoot house withthe XDs. Normally the shoot house isused for training LE and Military but is also available with an experienced andexcellent ex-marine instructor for private training. Military and LE use the shoot house forpractice on searching and clearing the various rooms with various changingtarget placement. For civilian use clearinga house is not the prescribed activity, but getting from room to room after abreak-in to retrieve your kids, or get to where your wife or significant otheris can be vital to get them to a safe location and then away from you. Without going into every detail there is a way to walk – heel to toeleaning forward knees bent – your head does not bounce; ways to enter a room, left or right and switching hands to present the least body exposure, etc. It is as close to reality as you can getwithout anyone shooting back and there is an adrenaline flow that needs to becontrolled. Mindset is important and youneed to think; see the target and shoot it without hesitation. But the point of this post is how the XDsperformed in a reasonably realistic scenario.
Instructor, like most, is a “slingshot the slide” guy andwhile several have indicated that doesn’t always work with the XDs, on thisoccasion with 750 pretty successful rounds through the XDs I figured I might aswell try it. In the start room I usedonly 7 round magazine (most of the scenarios required 6 or 7 shots – 2 slowfire, 2 rapid double taps and 1 3 shot, two to the chest and one to thehead. So I racked the slide like I waspulling the head off of a poisonous snake and hoped for the best. In every one of 5 different run trough’s theXDs performed flawlessly!
So the final though is that while there have been questionsand comment about whether the XDs is suitable for your personal defense carryweapon, my experience with this type of training indicates a whopping bigYES! Use it, practice with it and carryit without hesitation. Incidentally allshooting was two eyes open point shooting and you had no time to think aboutthe grip or limp wrist or anything but doing what you had trained for a the rangeand dry fire, and your objective, which was to shoot before you would have gotten shot. A great little, powerful handgun! I wouldn’t carry anything else.

That sounds like great training! I am glad that you used your XDS and that it passed muster. I am planning on taking a defensive shooting class this fall and will take either my XD9SC or my XDS. These are the two firearms that best suit me for EDC.
Thanks for your informative post!
When the dust finally settles, I think the XDS will have proven itself to be a superb firearm.

I have shot IDPA in the past and had lots of fun. Being a new shooter at the time, it was a great way to learn how to handle my weapon. A shoot house sounds like a great experience.
