Thinking Of XDS In This Context
After reading this, I find myself rethinking my carry strategy:
My CCW Shooting AAR--Now with Moar Graphic Pics on pg 29 & 30 - AR15.COM
Guy was shot through both palms with .38 Gold Dots, could barely work grip safety on 1911. He still got out two shots. How would a gun sensitive to limp wristing play out here? Lots of guns would have failed in this extreme scenario, not just the xds. But still has me thinking.
I should mention that my XDS has me more excited about shooting than I have been since I got my first .22 in the 1970s, and I have not had any problems with it. But read the above post and look at the pictures and share your thoughts.
Mods: if this is not appropriate please delete, just thought it would be of some interest.

I realize anything can happen, but I refuse to worry about stuff like this...I prepare myself as best I can everyday, and at some point, whatever happens to come my way,I'll just have to deal with it as best I can...Sometimes things are good, sometimes they're not...You can be as ready for anything as you'll ever be,but you can't control fate...If something like that ever happened to me all I can hope for is that I can do at least as well or hopefully better than he did...just my worthless .02...

Not worthless, thanks for the perspective. That is my take on it as well, sometimes it doesn't matter what you are carrying. Would like to hear other viewpoints as well.

Even though there is one story of the grip safety failing, there could also be a story of the grip safety saving your life. so you gotta take the good with the bad.

All I can do is expect the worse, and hope for the best in an event like that.

Exactly, and there are many more stories of people getting shot by a ND from a Glock with its lack of a grip safety.

You can't let this story dictate what you will carry. There are so many different possible scenarios for everything, that you will make your head spin thinking about them. Train with your choice of weapon and hope for the best.

The Will to Survive!
I followed the story on AR15.com and read all 36 pages of posts.
Some of the things I learned from this and similar incidents:- Confrontations will occur WHEN you least expect them.
- Confrontations will occur WHERE you least expect them.
- Confrontations will occur at lightning speed, usually a matter of seconds.
- All of the best laid plans usually go out the window.
- Your ability to respond may be highly dependent upon UNEXPECTED CIRCUMSTANCES, as shown in this case, where Blitz_308 had to wait for the right moment to fire to avoid others being shot and/or killed by the perpetrator.
- Expect a lot of blood to flow in a gun battle, including your own.
- It is critical to have an attitude of "I will WIN and SURVIVE this battle."
- In my opinion, Blitz_308 was a real hero in responding to this Bad Guy! When the people were herded into a secondary location, one can only assume that the Bad Guy's intention was to leave no witnesses.
All we can do to prepare for these unforeseen crises is to develop (1) Situational Awareness Skills, (2) Defensive Shooting Skills, (3) Defensive Response Skills, and (4) a strong Warrior Mindset. Even then, when the SHTF, there are no guarantees!
I found reading such stories very helpful. They helped inspire me to build a skill, resolve, and willingness to use my firearm to protect myself, even if that results in the death of another human. A firearm only can be useful if a person has examined themselves and made a conscious decision to have the "will" to use it. It is a very serious matter that anyone carrying a gun needs to confront.
