Trouble Free XDS
I picked up my XDS serial XS520XXX on August 10. Its test firing was on July 25. Today, I completed my third range trip with the XDS.
Ammo used thus far:
Independence 230 gr. FMJ (110 rds.)
PMC Bronze 230 gr. FMJ (100 rds.)
Hornady Critical Defense 185 gr. FTX (20 rds.)
Thus far, the XDS has been flawless. The ammo fed without incident with no FTFs, Stovepipes, FTEs, or failures to fire. For me, it is extremely accurate from two to seven yards. Today, a gun instructor shot my XDS from 20 yards and immediately put five rounds in the inner circle. Obviously the XDS is far more accurate than my shooting skills. However, my last five shots of the day from 20 yards resulted in one hit on the bullseye and four hits inside the 6" circle, so I am learning.
My goals at the range today were (1) to keep putting rounds in the pipe to discover its reliability, (2) to try out a new 7-rd. Mag., and (3) to see if the XDS had any slide problems during loading or firing.
RESULTS:
1. The two 5-rd. mags. and the new 7-rd. mag. had no issues. The rounds fed without incident. The slide never got hung up on the 7-rd. mag.
2. From an empty, locked back position, all mags. properly fed when a loaded mag. was inserted and the slide stop lever was dropped.
3. From an empty, locked back position, all mags. properly fed when a loaded mag. was inserted and the slide was released by manual sling-shot.
4. When a loaded mag. was inserted into an uncocked XDS, it could be cocked and loaded by manually pulling the slide back and using a manual slingshot.
5. When empty, all the mags. allowed to slide stop to engage the slide in its open position.
6. No matter what I tried, I could not get the XDS to stay slightly out of battery as described by some members.
Conclusions:
I am ecstatic with the performance of my particular XDS. It apparently is one of the "good" ones. It has remained trouble-free for the first 230 rounds and operated just as intended without a single quirk or problem.
I hope to get 170 JHP rds. through it this coming week. If it remains consistent, I will start carrying it as an EDC weapon after round 400 is completed. That will mean it will have fired 200 FMJ and 200 JHP rds. without any issues.

Mine's been great as well through 300 rounds. I tried some handloaded SWC stuff to try to get it to FTF as my XDM will do with them, but so far nothing. Great gun! I now have a lighter altnerative to my P239 to carry everyday!

I've shot 200 rounds without an issue. The one off center strike I did get was operator error... I'll excuse it as it was my buddies first time ever shooting a handgun.

Having Good XDS Experiences? Post Your Story Here!
It is great to hear from all of you who are having trouble-free experiences with the XDS. I think it is important for prospective or new owners to read about the positive experiences many are having with the XDS. When reading about some of the problems, it is easy to get a wrong impression about the gun.
It is human nature that people who have problems with the XDS are far more likely to post than people who are not having any problems!
I do feel for those who have a glitch in their XDS! There is nothing more unsettling than to make a gun purchase and then have a problem. It tends to make it difficult to "trust" the gun in the future. However, given Springfield's solid reputation, I personally would be fairly trusting if Springfield had to repair my XDS.
In the early stages, any new product, including firearms, can have unforeseen issues that have to be addressed and let's face it, the XDS is a new experiment. Placing a .45ACP round in a single stack, one-inch wide firearm is no easy task. In my opinion, the important thing is that Springfield Armory does stand behind their product. When problems are identified, the Customer Service at Springfield appears to be committed to solving the issues.
