adjusting sight on XDS
My XDS is shooting to left when i aim to the center. I tried using a brass punch and hammer to move the front sight but it's not moving at all. Does anyone know if these sight can be adjusted? For now I'm compensating by aim towards the right but I will like to zero it. Do I need to send the slide to gunsmith? the problem is to make adjustments and be able to test it to make sure is hitting center.

How far off are you talking? If I can hit a paper plate at 10 yards consistently I'm happy as can be.

First off, and I know this comment will draw heat from certain folks here, did you try shooting the gun using a rest to make certain the sights really are off?
I consider myself a fair shot but the XD-s confounded me with low left shots. I thought the sights were off until I tried using a rest and realized it was me! These little guns take some getting used to and will put your fundamentals to the test.
As I said in a previous post, eliminate everything BEFORE you start whacking away at your sights! Also, you should be drifting your rear sight not the front! If your punch slips, you'll destroy the fiber optic rod! The rear sight is heavier and can take the pounding better. Good Luck!

I didn't use a rest. I had the same issue with my shield and I adjusted the front sight per instruction manual. I did some wacking to the front sight but no luck and i can see my punch marking the corner of the base of the sight so i stopped.
I understand using a rest but in reality im not going to be using a rest. I will try the rear sight since it makes sense. Thanks for the advise. I will post if I can get it centered if not I guess I will have to send it to James and mark down how he needs to move it.

I would still try shooting off a rest to save the wear and tear on you gun if it isn't necessary. Like I said, these little guns will show every flaw you have in your grip..... where you place your finger on the trigger, how you pull the trigger and on and on....
Most often, as with me, I was trying to use the pad of my finger to pull the trigger but wound up "Pushing" the gun left because of the long trigger pull. Try putting the crease of the first joint of your finger on the trigger and see if that helps. It works for me. Good Luck!

Good luck moving those sights bro. I've been sitting here for the past hour trying to remove my sights with a Lasrlyte RL-Tool and they will NOT budge! I've read they are heat pressed in ... search the gunsmithing thread. And yes you're going to get a lot of guys tell you that you need to relearn to shoot blah blah blah ... or hey I have an idea, just adjust the sights. If the seat in my car isn't at the correct position I don't think I need to take driving lessons ... I adjust my seat.

Thanks for the advise guys. i went back and tried adjusting the rear sight this time. i was able to move it and I think I adjust it to the point it will work for me. I will go shooting this weekend and will update.
I understand what you are saying RetiredFCC about the rest but in my opinion I don't like to train with a rest because i will not be shooting from a rest in real life. I'm not been rude or are trying to argue. I do appreciate the advise but I experienced this situation with previous small frame pistols like the Keltec PF9, 9mm Shield and now the XDS. No mather what I did to improve my aim (grip, stance, trigger pull, etc)these small frame pistols will be shooting to the left in my case. I could be the way they recoil or other factors but is just easier for me to adjust the sights. I guess is the way i'm made. lol
I wish i tried the rear sight 1st. The front sight has a small mark at the base. Nothing major is kinda cosmetic but it sucks to see it. Oh well i will get over it.

No harm no foul. Just passing along a condensed version of what A LOT of others are experiencing with their XD-s and if you feel your sights are off, by all means move em.
Just remember to move the rear sight in the direction you want the rounds to go, opposite of adjusting the front sight.
