Normal? If not what could be the cause?

The finish on the barrels of xd suck. My xdms barrel finish was pretty crappy lookin when I got it. Now with 200 rounds it looks about like yours. To me it's really not a big deal bc it does not effect the funtion of the gun and your only gonna see it when u break it down or lock the slide back

That's weird where those markings are.. My XDS has over 600+ rounds and it's just got wear on the top.

Mine has a bit in the area. Tight tolerances folks. We can't keep comparing the XDs to XDm or XD. These things are normal.

My barrel has a lot of markings with over 100 rounds, but nothing like that.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I have 330 rounds thru mine and I don't have marks like that. I have a little wear around the front of the barrel. Would the gun still function if the guide rod was not fully seated at the chamber end? Mine is chewing up my guide rod on the chamber end but my XDM has done the same. The guide rod on this gun is fairly difficult to compress to get in the right groove. I just don't know how the gun would react if it wasn't fully seated. This sure doesn't look normal, especially with so few rounds.

Could very well be your spring, but I'm really not too certain. If they're actual scratches or small gouges call Springfield. If their surface scratches or "normal" wear type marks I wouldn't worry about it.

Yea I'm not too happy about the wear on my barrel, but as long as the projectile goes in the intended direction then that's all that matters.

Here are a few pics of wear on my barrel. Keep in mind there's around 5k-6k rounds through my barrel and it still shoots straight. The "wear" developed from the first 500-600 rounds and has in a way hit a plateau and hasn't worsened. Doesn't bother me.

I have a decent amount of wear on the barrel too. Like others have mentioned, I was a little disappointed but I keep telling myself it's a carry gun and that it really doesn't matter.

I guess what matters the most is if it functions properly.
