Best Choices for Self Defense Ammo

and

http://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=19887

read that.

Choose one of the rounds listed under .45.

Buy a couple of boxes. Take it to the range, and shoot it. See if your gun is 100% reliable with it, and if you like the accuracy and control. If yes to all of the above, just stock up on that round, and stop fretting about what's "best".

From the second link:

The keys are:

-- Cultivate a warrior mindset
-- Invest in competent, thorough initial training and then maintain skills with regular ongoing practice
-- Acquire a reliable and durable weapon system
-- Purchase a consistent, robust performing duty/self-defense load in sufficient quantities (at least 1000 rounds) then STOP worrying about the nuances of handgun ammunition terminal performance.

I'm choosing Remington Golden Saber standard pressure. Good round and I've field tested it so I know it works.

My earlier post turned out to be user error and I can't even begin to tell you how he was unable to rack a round into the barrel but there it is. I shot the XDs today and and enjoyed it very much. I can see what all the fuss is about how such a small frame handles a large load but it does and she does it well. I will still go with the 3.8" XDm .45, I just like having the rounds available with a carry weapon.

I've been running the Remington HD Ultimate Home Defence 230gr. Never shot it before but since the shop I bought the gun at didn't have Hornady that's what I went with. It's been running flawless with them and been pretty accuratedfor me so I'll stick with 'em.

Ya know, the XDS is a short barrel gun.

People need to consider ammo specifically engineered for short barrel guns that helps reduce the blinding flash of night firing and reduces recoil. Best choice would be Speer Gold Dot short barrel ammo in 230 grain Speer Ammo - Short Barrel

The ammo to use for a short-barrel .45 auto XDS (or XDM) is listed second to last on this product page: http://www.speer-ammo.com/ballistics/ammo.aspx

The Hornady Critical Defense is also for short barrel guns, however, they do not make it in a 230 grain bullet weight.
