The only reliable wounding mechanism in service pistol calibres is the size of the hole (expansion) and penetration (how deep the hole is) both of those are not increased by +P rounds and in many cases penetration is less in the lighter +P rounds.

So, is your postion that a 230 gr HST is less effective than a 230 gr +P HST fired from the same weapon?

My opinion is that there is little if any difference in penetration and expansion and that the +p has the added draw back of more recoil and muzzle blast. Simply there is no need for it. A rounds effectiveness in terminal performance is not measure in foot pounds.

I'll take extra velocity for a given weight bullet every day of the week. I contend that a minimal increase in recoil is not felt in a defensive situation when adrenalin takes over.
I shot +P in my XDs mixed in with other defensive ammo and couldn't feel much difference.

Added recoil and muzzle blast slows follow up shots at night it has more flash and there is no advantage to them when it comes to terminal performance.

I fed mine some 230 gr Federal Hydra-Shoks first time out and they fed without a problem. They were accurate and I have a bunch from when I carried my 1911 so I'm carrying them in my XD-s.
