It doesn't make any difference if your gun is suppressed if the guy at the other end, with the Barrett shooting .50BMG isn't! What about the clown with the S&W model 500 "Grizzly Destroyer" standing next to you? Last time I checked, putting a suppressor on a revolver was pointless! I guess what I'm trying to say is the suppressor, while cool, isn't going to help YOU at the range!
I always double up with my hearing protection and it helps but I already have permanent damage thanks to the US Navy! If you have your own personal range where you can bust caps by your own lonesome, then a suppressor would be great! I just can't justify the bucks for something that is more a novelty than anything else especially on a gun as small as the XD-s!

The range that i use will NOT allow you on the line without hearing and eye protection!

I also have permanent bilateral tinnitus and hearing loss associated with toxic poisoning when I endured a house fire. Cochlear damage, nerve damage, brain injury. Noise (even background city traffic, etc.) makes the tinnitus worse for days, as does shooting, even with plugs, muffs on.
My initial post was from a legal standpoint first, and of course the addition of it to a CCW.
I wouldn't be interested, but I'm curious what happens!

Here is a pic of what I ALMOST can do. just missing that dang XDS Threaded Barrel

I was talking about "Silencer" type suppressors not ear and eye protection. I don't know of ANY range that doesn't require eye and ear protection on the firing line.

Yep, More of a private range type of deal. Already have the can for the FNX 45, but want it for the XDS as well. Will find the threaded barrel for the XDS one day..... eventually.

Springfield Armory: a no go

Official email response from Springfield Armory Custom Shop today: "No, at this time there are no longer barrels for the XDS handgun. Since this handgun was designed to be a carry pistol, I do not see this option being available in the near future."
Hopefully someone in the aftermarket community will make a Threaded Barrel for the Springfield "XDS" 45.

I've seen adapters made for guns that longer threaded barrels are not available for. The original barrel is turned down and threaded, the adapter screws on with an OD that fits the slide and extends out with the correct threads for the suppressor.
Getting the XDs to function with a suppressor hanging on the barrel might be a challenge, a booster will probably be required.

Sounds similar to my Walther P22 setup. adapter threads onto the OD (Walther p22 and XDS are almost identical in dimensions by the way with a "slight" caliber difference)
Now the trick is to find someone to make it...

I would love a threaded barrel and suppressor setup. My dad is making a little backstop on his property. I now want suppressors in every caliber we have to not disturb the neighbors and shoot as much as we want. I really need to win the lottery to fuel this addictive habit. I bought the XDs to be my current CCW. But being able to shoot suppressed on his property would be fun.

GREAT NEWS! I spoke with Barsto Barrels. They said that they plan on making a batch of threaded Springfield XDS barrels in February/March 2013. Maybe if they get enough calls, they may move the time frame up. In any case, there is light at the end of the tunnel.
