My EDC is a Kimber Ultra Carry, 25 oz empty w/ a 3" barrel, Its not like shooting my Custom II but, I can put 500 rounds through it in a session with no discomfort.

Guns like the XDS, LCP, Snubbys in magnum calibers, aren't meant to be shot a lot, I'd get about 500 rounds down range over 3-4 sessions with one and then shoot 50 rds now and again to maintain proficency and that'd be about it...

When I had a little gun for carry, I got a Sig P238 because it was shoot-able... Remember fellas; 1st rule of a gun fight is *Have a gun, 2nd rule IMO is *Be proficient shooting the gun you have with you...

These XDs' will probably be better in 9mm, .45 acp is just too much IMO for that small of a package.... If I can one of these days I'll trade my 45acp 3" 1911 for an EMP in 9mm just because its more befitting for the size of the gun.

As others have posted the tiny guns are not for the range, they're for carry/defense. I occasionally carry a Keltec P11 because it vanishes on me, but I absolutely hate shooting it. I toss a few mags through it at the range to maintain proficiency but I have other guns that are a lot more fun to shoot. A mini .45 is just asking to get beat up. Appropriate expectations and all...

Sorry to hear it, some thoughts I found

Hands vary a lot but it is quite common for the "top" of the trigger finger to rub against the underside of the frame between the joints and the "bottom" (the right side of the tip if you are right handed) to rub against the trigger guard. The right hand side of the trigger finger tip (meaning closer to the bottom) can then get pinched between the end of the trigger and the trigger guard. If the end of the trigger is pointed, as it often is, it will produced a blister. The so called trigger safety is narrow and often sharp as well. Usually it doe not go flush with the trigger when you pull the trigger and so that too can cause tenderness or blistering.

As the slide returns from recoil it picks up the firing pin lug and semi cocks the pistol. This is not a great force but it is sudden and it might push the trigger and your finger forwards and cause or add to these basic problems or it might be something to do with the way the pistol moves in your hand under recoil.

PS: too much too soon with a differently designed pistol than your used to shooting.

Not quite sure which "all these not-so-positive range reports" you speak
The two or three here on XDTalk??? It is a fine firearm in "my" humble opinion!! But like any firearm, may not fit the opperator. As far as accuracy, the 3.3" barrel really is goooooood. I really suggest you try one if you can, chances are, you will approve they do what they are designed to do..... putting large holes from a small self defense gun. NOT all day lead slingin'. But hey, we shoot what best suits us, and makes us happy! It makes the world go-round
Again, IMHO.....

Been watching the forum for a while...I was first on the list for one at my LGS and got it a few weekends ago.

I actually like shooting it more than my full size XDM .40. I have pretty large hands, and I don't go to the range near as much as you guys. The first night I shot it had been about 6 months since the range. Put 100 rounds through it. My palm was a little sore the next day but that's it. Went a couple more times since, 50 and 100 rds respectively, and no issues.

It's definitely all about anatomy and technique. I guess this is why there's more than one gun out there for purchase, Haha.

I love mine. Had FTE with Winchester white box stuff but it gobbles up PMC and Federal so far.

Thumbs up I picked up my Xds and shot 100 rounds thru it

And I'm very very happy!!! This is my first gun I got it for CCW and am glad I did. I do work with my hands for a living so maybe they are pretty tolerant to the pressure. Yes there is a lot of kick but geese its a 45 in a 29 oz gun. I don't know jack about guns yet but I do understand physics. Anyways I was with a few friend who had a handful of full size 45's and other than a stellar 1911 my xds was right there with them.

Comments like these are very frustrating. Old school .45 guys throwing out platitudes about .45's. Guns like the XDS aren't meant to be fired a lot??? I love that it immediately gets put into this category of small light 45 = hard to shoot. Especially when these people haven't shot it. The XDS is a revolution for the caliber. So dont assume that since the LC9 kicks like a mother that a gun in similar size but .45 ACP will be worse. It's not even close. I prefer it to a full size 9mm even.

It's like talking to old school v8 guys that can't except modern reality about 4 cyl or v6 performance.

If you haven't shot the XDS don't comment about how "fun" it isn't to shoot and scare people away from it bc it's a light .45 ACP gun. It is amazingly fun to shoot and I have zero soreness after shooting it.

In the case of the OP, he either had bad form or it just didn't fit him right. However he is in the vast minority.

I take it you have the .40? I thought seriously about the Shield...but really have my heart set on the XDS. The only .45 I own is a Taurus 24/7 G2. Was gonna sell it and pick up an XDS..but I can't find it for anything out here. Plus...there's no conceal law out here so I say eff it and just wear my G2...but I do want a conceal .45 soon. I gave my LC9 to my girlfriend...so a conceal is in the near future. I know Taurus has a bad rap with semi autos...but I really do like this gun. Have had zero problems with it. Plus you can preset it for single action (had to show the dealer how lol)...seriously nothing bad to say about this weapon.

I really don't need to buy another gun right now...just dropped some quiche on a Saiga 12 a couple weeks ago and have been pimpin' it out. God that things fun to shoot. Probably should focus on stocking up on ammo instead of another gun right now anyway...so the XDS might have to wait a few months.

Did the original poster ever mention the exact ammunition that was used? Nope!

Some types of .45acp ammo will create far more kick and muzzle flip than other types of .45acp ammo. e.g. Hornady Critical Duty versus Critical Defense
The difference between Critical DUTYŽ & Critical DEFENSEŽ - Hornady Manufacturing, Inc

Most other posters have remarked that the recoil of the XDS is very manageable.
