So, why all the mention of the S&W Shield?

While the S&W Shield may be a fine gun, I fail to see the comparison with the XDs. People mention that they are tired of waiting for the XDs to be released and decide to buy a Shield instead. It seems to me that this is a comparison of apples and oranges. The XDs is a single-stack .45 Auto...plain and simple. If you want to compare the Shield to something, do so against maybe a Kel-Tec PF-9, a Glock 36, etc...I think what all of us in the XDs section of this forum are waiting for is the juicy, goodness of a single-stack .45 Auto polymer pistol from SA. Plain and simple. The only pistol that might compare is the Glock 36, but I think the vast majority of us here tend to be SA-lovers, not Glock-lovers. So, seriously...save the Shield talk for another forum than the XDs forum. It's .45 and that ain't no jive!

IF and when the XDs makes it to the shelves, and the 9mm that follows sometime down the road, the M&P Shield is giving us a single stack 9mm now. I think the comparisons fall more into the pistol dimensions than the caliber.

Sometime in future, if a XDs 9mm is offered, it will out sell a 45acp. I think people are really jazzed about the offering in a slim M&P platform, and can have it now. SA has really fumbled the ball so far in giving the market what we wanted a long time ago, and S&W was there to fill that void first. Brilliant!

Fanboy, much? Seriously, this forum's users don't just swing from the proverbial nuts of Springfield and as such freely talk about and enjoy firearms from ALL manufacturers.

I can see why you'd think the Shield's talk is misplaced in the XDs subforum, and you're correct. We DO have a proper subforum and the Shield talk should be in the Non-XD Handguns section.

But your post begs the question: Are you being anal, or are you just skeered?

Other than the .45 aspect, the XDs line will bring nothing new to the table versus what the competition is already offering. The Shield is stealing SA's thunder from making all the buzz about a slimline .45 for conceal carry purposes by releasing a quality conceal piece of their own that has aftermarket support already. I was trying to wait on the XDs line to arrive to the table and compare to the other options available, and then months went by with no product and I picked up a Shield because...well...it seems to be exactly what I was looking for, and yes, I do feel it compares nicely to what Springfield's offering will be albeit not in .45.

I, too, come to this forum because what got me into shooting was an XDm and stumbled upon xdtalk. After about two years of shooting, I just didn't love it and traded it off. Doesn't make me like the xdtalk forums any less, as I feel it's one of the better gun forums out there.

A 36 is a single stack .45 as well..........I agree though, it's like comparing apples to oranges. Compare it to a CW9 or a PM9, leave the single stack .45 discussion to just that - single stack .45's. IMO the shield is nothing new.......the PF9 is small, the CW9 is small, and the shield is small.......so what? They are all small, get what fits your hand best

maybe that's what's happen, everyone that's realized this forum is a good informative forum has bought diff guns and now decide to pisss all over the house now.

i will admit, i just got on here to see what's up after a few days and this post's replies really got under my skin. go ahead, flame away call me a fan boy too; BUT if i'm gonna carry a 5 shot 9mm ROUND, i'm gonna carry a revolver in 38spl, but that's my take.

also, go ahead and flame away with how the 9mm are magic bullets now over a 38spl now too with all the new and improved ammo out now and it even is even more a magic bullet over the magic magic bullet the .40 cal!

no, just post "Lighten up Francis!" There, did it for you!

OP, i'm with you man! at least you got one guy in your corner, oh, and i'm thinking of getting an H&K (But in .45) and i will probably not sell my XDs either! more guns is better than less guns...isn't it?

If you notice the "shield" threads are all in the NON xd handgun forum. If you dont like them, its simple.. DONT click on them! If you wish to piss and moan about it... I believe the " piss and moan" forums are over on glock talk.
If you notice the "non" xd hand gun forum has alot more than just the "shield". Theres guns from various manufacturers ie, glock, s&w, sig ect.... you dont hear anyone griping about those threads do you?? Hell there's even a glock photo gallery on here (xdtalk)! And also a "non xd" photo gallery too. And I bet its the same over on the other forums as well. They all have their "non dedicated gun" threads as well.

Sorry, I guess I came off a bit strong but to complain about the diversity we enjoy here on XDTalk kinda tells me a few things about the OP. I'm a guy guy, not a fanboy. As such I tend to speak my mind about things and it may rub people the wrong way that my opinion is different than their own. That's fine, I realize I'm not going to get along with everyone in the world, nor do I wish to.

I'll be *points off to the side* over there, enjoying the breadth and width of the firearms community as a whole, including all the wonderful products being offered.

Apples to apples: Kahr PM-45 equals or beats the XDs-45 except in price.
Apples to oranges: the Shield 9mm is out NOW, the XDs-45 is not. The Shield may or may not come out in 45 with or without significant changes compared to the 9mm.

If SA wants to "rah rah" the XDs ,that's fine and expected but getting into the game late is getting them razzed and they just have to accept that, it's business.
