South Florida (I just finished editing my user CP), I conceal carry a lot, and feel it adds another measure of safety. I know for many experience shooters it is not necessary but for now it will not buy a gun without it, maybe down the road. My main fear is in re holstering the weapon.

Just wondering; when you reholster your XD, is your finger on the trigger?

There is absolutely no reason to screw up a perfectly good XD by putting a manual safety on it.
The reason for the option is because some agencies, and probably the military, require it in their specs.

I carry a cocked and locked Commander as often as I do my XD9SC.
Haven't shot myself with either one, not so much because of the safety features on the pistols, but because of the safety features in my head.

I understand this, However if you make sure to keep your finger away from the trigger while reholstering, there are plenty of safeties on the XD and XDm models to prevent any accidents.

If I could find one with an external thumb safety I would also buy it, but really, they are plenty safe as they are. And I do plan on buying one in 9mm as soon as I find the cash for it.

When holstering the gun, keep your finger off the trigger, and your thumb on the back of the slide (so you aren't pressing on the grip safety).
