That doesn't sound too bad. I"m not sure if it's high or low considering it's not even out yet. The XD(M) .40s seem to be hovering around that on Gunbroker, so I think you might be paying a little more but I don't think it's much.
I put an email notification down at Gallery of Guns.com - Gun Gallery, Ruger Firearms, Shooter Online Services, Firearm Industry News, Firearm Dealer, Gun News when the XD(M) 9mm is released. I'd love to get one.
ETA: the MSRP is $749 for a bi-tone and $649 for 'plain jane'.

I don't know why those damn 2 tones are always pictured forst. The XDm looks SO much better all black. Long live the XDm. Bring on the 9mm.

It's expected to hit the market as soon as Mid October. I thinking of getting one for competition shooting. Should be another hot Springfield Armory Weapon.

Even if we all end up restricted to 10 rounds, which may all very may will be, I always carry a spare mag anyway...I'll just have to make it 2 or 3. BG's don't usually carry extra ammo for a gun they're going to toss...
