Xd-m
Different grip angle and type of checkering. Different cut angles on the slide. Removable backstraps. Not too much of a change to me. The advertisement pics are the best I've seen so far.
Not impressed - not disappointed. Just kind of "whatever" on the M model. Not impressed with the new prices of these M's. Don't think I'll pay $600 + for that fugly checkered frame. Really want the manual safety model of XD now - I can wait a very long time on the M (if it is the new standard). I'd swap the USA Trigger for a standard trigger for the manual safety myself. Mine does not interfere - just too "Glocky" to me (even though the XD's feel is better) without a purpose. |

Not impressed - not disappointed.
It is just another XD model with new features. Yes, aware internals might be a total redesign. The improved trigger reset would be the biggest asset I can see to this model.
The current XD model fits my hand to a "t" so do not need that much of a egonomics change for myself. The current XD to me just is about close to perfection. Do not see the price increase to justify the redesign. If it was closer to $500 (where the XD's have been around) I could see it. Everyone seems to be "M4'ing" the line of pistols. Trying to make their product everything for everyone for every accessory known to man. Sometimes it is just a little too much. I think the XD held up well to all competition including the M&P Line, Walther, HK, and Glock without a major redesign. As said - not impressed and not disappointed either. If it becomes the standard fourth generation HS/XD and inflation passes the point where $600 is the old $500 I would consider buying it in the future (even with the fugly checkering Last edited by exexpat93; 06-05-2008 at 06:58 AM. $550 isnt close to $500? I see XD's for more than what i paid for the m at different shops, if your dealer is inflating the price, thats not springfields fault

What would make it a "great" limited gun?

Already done.
ActionAl, You won't get a "great Limited gun" for under $3,000 IMO. There is just no comparing a great, custom made SVI/STI/Caspian to anything else. A great gun doesn't automatically make you shoot better than a good one does. I'm just keeping it real. A good Limited gun will out shoot the ability of almost every shooter, and the XDM's we've tricked out shoot real nice. Would it replace my high end custom pistols? Probably not, as I've shoot so many hundreds of thousands of rounds through them, they are a part of me. Will I use the XDM in competition, yep. In USPSA Production and probably IDPA ESP most likely. Will the XDM be a gun that allows a lot of people who don't want to drop $4,000 - $5,000 in top of the line gear to play in Limited class? I do think so. I think you will be able to get going with good gear and the important upgrades for $1,500. That is a real good thing. Limited class is the deep end of the pool, and from what I've seen so far from the XDM, you will be able to play in the deep end with it. |
