Bought my first XDM today

So as a happy 21st birthday to myself I went to the local range and rented several handguns. I had done my research beforehand and decided on a 9mm subcompact. The XDM has had most of my attention since my research began 6ish months ago, but I decided to test out several different subcompacts in the price range to see which felt best in my hand and which I shot most proficiently with. I shot an XDM9c, an M&P (shield I think), a Sig, and a Glock. Out of the four, I shot the XDM the best, and enjoyed the feel of it the most. I then ran over to my local gun store and traded in a rarely and barely used Saiga rifle + a good bit of cash for my new XDM 9mm subcompact in that spiffy bi-tone finish.

When I go to pick it up on Friday, I'll be grabbing a variety of ammo for general testing and to see what it likes to eat the most for self defense and simple general plinking. Do y'all have any suggestions for either?

Also, what are some general things I should know about the gun?

I will certainly be following up on this thread with some pictures and initial range reports.

Thanks,
WCoop

Congratulations and welcome to the forum...you made a great selection in my opinion, the xdm9c is easy to shoot and the nine is relatively cheap ammo.I usually shoot whatever is cheap usually Winchesterwhite box 230gr in a box of 100.but the gun will cycle most anything you feed it. Good luck and enjoy.

Congrats and get ready for a million responses on ammo. Try out different brands and see which one you prefer. I love my XDm .45 5.25".

Congrats on the new XDm and welcome to the forum. I hate to hear that you had to part with a Saiga though, it is a very fine weapon and may be hard to replace if the current administration gets reelected in November.

Thanks, I wish I didn't have to get rid of the Saiga, she was in. 308 with a 16" barrel. I just never took her out enough to justify keeping her. At least I got fair trade in price.

The XDm 9 SC is a real nice pistol. It has great feel and balance and with the changeable backstraps you're sure to get an excellent fit. You'll also find it a great CCW gun too. I haven't found any range ammo mine won't cycle. For CC I like the Gold Dot 124 and 147 gr HP. Good luck and congrats...

Congrats on your new XDM bi-tone. Be sure to use a high quality rust preventative gun oil on the slide and in the slide serrations when storing it. Especially if you live in an area that has high humidity. Some recommendations: Mil-comm, Slip2000, Weapon Shield, and Eezox.
