New sights for xdm

I want to get some new sights for my xdm 9mm 4.5.

Looking for something with more visibility than the sotck sights. Would it be possible to get the sight on the 5.25 on the 4.5?

I've wanted new sights on my XDM's as well. I have a fibre optic green front sight on my Buckmark and I love it, I wanted to do the same with my XDM and add adjustables to the rear (similar to what you're describing with the 5.25) but passed when I read about how much grief it was to change front sights - even my gunsmith said he'd do it but would rather not. Apparently the front sight is like hell to change.

If you wind up doing it report back on how it went.

Forumsurfer - NICE!

Did you change the sights yourself?

I'm an IT geek by trade, been so since 99.

So naturally I hate technology and leave it at work as best I can (gun forums don't count lol). I enjoy working with my hands and fixing stuff for the sake of fixing stuff.

I install them myself. But I do it old school. I use a vice, a flat file and a brass punch. Never broken a tritium vial (yet). Would a $100 sight pusher be a worthwhile investment? I've changed a bunch of sights, so yeah. But I kinda enjoy the time spent just doing it with the tools I have on hand.

The pics are from a crappy cell phone cam. The front sight is slightly wider than it appears in the pics. They look just like the 5.25 or m&p pro 5" sights. The tritium front is slightly thicker, but still a generous amount of light comes through.

I prefer this setup for fast, defensive drills or just plinking at any distance. I've found this style to be the most instinctive and intuitive, at least for me. Plus, my eyes have trouble focusing on the front sight as soon as I punch out from the draw as I get older. Dots at the rear grab my focus no matter how much I practice. Black rear, problem solved.

I have a set with tritium 1 dot rears, but I find I still have issue. I painted the rear dot with a green sharpie. Nearly black by day, green over lighter green by night.

Oh I can tell those Warren sights are much narrower than stock 5.25 sights. Here's mine from about the same distance in your photo...I think. LOL. Stock sights here.

The warren FO goes almost all the way to the edges. The stock XDM has much black around the FO.

Totally agree with the black rear. Best sight setup I have is my Buckmark with the green (large) fiber optic front and black rear. I just stay locked in on the target and it's the easiest for me to pick up and stay with. One of these days I'm going to break down and get my XDM sights changed, I like your setup a lot.

I've had a pistol here and there where I couldn't find a manufacturer that made a wide notched, all black rear. A black sharpie fixes the rear dots causing me trouble, or to suit my preference...whatever you want to call it. If you sell it, a q-tip and fingernail polish gets rid of the sharpie. It also wears off with time.

I've also used a file to widen the rear notch, but that one is irreversible and it can be a real goofball move if you screw it up.

My 4.5 has Dawson precision adjustable rear sights with tritium insert, and a dawson front sight blade with tritium insert. I actually like these sights better than my Dawson competition fiber optic sights on my 5.25

I sent the slide to James at HS precision. He does great work with fast turn around. Highly recommend him. The second picture is my 3.8 with just straight trijicon tritium sights also installed by James.
