I chose to go the "drop-in" route because it was quite a bit cheaper than going their fitted "fitted" (about double that). With the "fitted", you need to send your entire pistol to them, which I didn't really want to do, and they would fit it there and send it back. Since Irv (the owner of Bar-Sto) told me that if mine happened not to drop in correctly, to send the barrel and just the slide to him and he'd use his frame along with my slide to do the fine tuning. Would only cost the shipping both ways. Figured what do I have to lose and that's why I chose the drop-in barrel. The drop-in was suppose to to be good in 80%+ of the slides, but since the production line can vary somewhat, it could be off slightly and won't drop in correctly. Lucky me, I was one to the 20%.
Anyway, I procrastinated long enough, didn't want to really be out another few weeks having waited so long initially, that I decided to take to our local champion gunsmith who is not only good "smith" but is a champion marksman as well. Bottom line is, he said leave it with him and come back in about an hour. I did and he had "custom fit" the barrel to my pistol and it is tighter than it comes from Springer. We test fired it and not one problem or failure. I've since taken it to the range where it performs flwlessly with the 9mm and the .40 barrels. Oh, and he only charged me $40.00 for the work that he said took him 30 min. Alot cheaper than the shipping would have been and faster than having to send back to Bar-Sto. Very happy with it. Hope it helps.

I'd have to look back and actually dig up my receipt to know Don. I'll try and find it though. The worst part for me was actually waiting 15 weeks to get it. I justified it to myself by saying that I wasn't in a hurry, but . . . something about ordering something speeds up the "want" time. LOL.
Well, I found it and to my surprise it was $205. + shpg and I ordered it last November. Memory is really going. Guess I had too many comparisons going on. I do know that it was considerably less than the "fitted" route. That would have been $205. + $175. fitting fee + $60.-$80. shpg (the entire pistol). Grand total $440.-$460. and would take an additional 2 wks. (ha). No wonder why I chose the lesser $205. route. Anyway, over and done and a fine 2 in 1 pistol that is tight, and shoots great. Just wanted to be accurate with the figures.

Thanks. I know the other mfgs are fine barrels as well, but had heard that Bar-Sto was the top. They supposedly make Springfields barrels also. That's what I was told anyway. I really like the 2 in 1 factor though and the funny thing is . . . I have a XDm 9mm "compact" and a Sig TACOPS 9mm too. Three 9mm's. (ha)

OK, so the barrel and mags got here a couple of days ago. The reduced wt springs got here today. So I should be ready to go. Here's a pic of the 9mm XDM standard barrel, the 40 cal standard, and the 9mm Conversion drop in from Pistol Gear.

Just wish the springs were color coded. Need to buy some paint.

Well, tomorrow's the day. Barrel, springs, mags are all in and ready to go. I'm starting out with the 14 lb spring because I'm not using a max load so we'll see how it goes. I've got a 16 lb. I can try also.
Hope I'm happy with it.
