XDM Backstraps and Sight Alignment

I recently purchased a XDM in 45 acp and thought I wouldshare my experience. The first time out to the range I noticed that I had to tilt my wrist downward to get the sights aligned. I regularly shoot a Sig 226 and a few other pistols that come up with the sights aligned. I discovered its not always what
feels the most comfortable to your hand thats important.
Basically: When you bring the pistol up to line of sight and the front sight is above the back sight you should go to the smaller backstrap. If when you bring the pistol up to line of sight and backsight is higher than the front sights you would go to the larger back strap.

The backstraps act as a wedge and change the angle that the weapon is in your hand. Try the small one first and then the large one. If you do not notice any difference then you are manipulating your wrist arm or something to get the sights aligned.. You should see a signficant difference between the two sight alignments.


You can manipulate your hand to get the sights in line but its better if the pistol points where you looking.

Yeah, the first thing I did was change mine to the flattest one. I like the flat main spring housings on the 1911's (always change them out when I get a new one) so I just changed the backstrap on the XDM.

This is good to know.
I currently have the #2 backstrap in my XDM 9 now. It does not seem to jump as much as when I have # 1 installed. # 3 is too big for me to grasp well.

Been researching why I shoot better with the medium backstrap and ran across this thread. Thank you for this, absolutely a useful piece of information.
