XDM 40 subcompact remorse and XDM 9 failures

Alright, I did something shameful. I sold my XDM 40, that ran flawlessly, felt great in my hand, and I could shoot it very well! It was an awesome carry piece. I sold it for a 44 magnum that I have no regrets purchasing however the XDM filled a niche for me that only an XDM can fill I've decided.

Now I know some of you will say you never sell any gun for this reason, which is fine, I wish I could be in that club but if I want to stay married I have to sell one before I can buy another one.

So my conclusion is to get another XDM but this time I want to get it in 9mm but I have one question. Will the XDM 9 fail when limp wristing?

One of the first things I do when I get a new pistol is make sure it will cycle even when limp-wristing (I read an article about a guy that got shot in his forearm and could not grip his pistol fully causing it to FTE so now I make sure all mine will cycle with just a trigger pull)

For anyone curious I could not get the XDM40 subcompact to fail in anyway, limp wristing included.

People have posted here that they have intentionally limp wristed the XDM and it does not jam. Though it is a whole different story for the XDS.

Curious, I wonder why he didn't just shoot it with his weak hand. I shoot mine right and left handed just for practice and usually shoot equally well with either but have never tried purposely limp-wristing it, guess I'll try it tomorrow.

I saw a youtube vid of a guy firing XDm 9mm with just his thumb on the grip safety and finger on the trigger. That's a limp as a gun can be held and it fired off 10-12 rounds with out pause. He also did a Glock 17 a Sig and several others. I recall the Sig also fired w/o issue but the Glock failed. And Glocks are not known to be fail prone!

Any auto can fail due to a limp wrist. Why would you want to do that?? If you were to ever be shot in the forearms or hands, you have bigger issues than your gun failing.

10,000+ rounds thru my XDm 9mm and never once have I had a weapon specific failure. I bought it used so I must have skipped the "break in period."

Once at a match I was shooting down a hallway with a wall immediately to the right of the pistol(I was shooting with the ejection port around 6" from the wall) after a few shots I had a "stoppage." I honestly stopped for a split second because although I do practice malfunction drills, I honestly hadn't ever had to do one before. I glanced down at the slide and notice the backside of a shell casing sticking out of the ejection port. ie: a reverse stovepipe. The SO told me afterwards that he saw it happen, the shell casing ejected out of the weapon, hit the wall to my right, and bounced back into the chamber. Of all the LUCK! =) But other than that I have NEVER had a malfunction.

Here's an image of what the shooting position looked like when it happened. I can't find the actual video from that match, but the setup was very similar to the below image.

So all in all I've had a pretty good experience with my XDm 9mm. I've shot in a wide variety of positions and conditions. Raining, muddy, strong hand, weak hand, kneeling, sitting, prone, unsupported, supported... I have absolute confidence that when my finger applies enough pressure to the trigger, it will go bang, and bang again until there aren't any rounds left.

I have 2500 rounds through my XDm 9mm, 4.5" with only one fail to fire on what looked like a good striker contact of the primer. The round fired the second time. I've never purposely tried to limp wrist it, but I've had my teenage daughters shoot it and it's worked every time for them.

Thank you all for the input I really appreciate it, I think I'm going to pull the trigger (pun intended) on getting the XDM 9. I will post pics of the 44 soon.

Also I'd appreciate any feedback on Powder River precision trigger kits and Springer precision trigger kits as I am thinking about putting one into this XDM and my XD9SC.

I've got an XDm 3.8 with 2000+ rounds and zero failures of any kind whatsoever. I know guys who have tens of thousands of rounds with no issues. I think you will be fine with that choice.

On the PRP kits they're great, I've got one in both of my XDm's and had one in my 9sc before I sold it. I had the drop in and the ultimate and IMHO the drop in is just about as good and unless you can do the fitting work yourself the ultimate will wind up costing more. My advice is go with PRP and the drop in kits. I've not used or seen the Springer kits.
