Best 9mm Ammo
I have a XDM 5.25 9mm.
What are your thoughts on which Ammo for self defense? How about practice range? Price, on target, smell, cleanliness and for self defense, its stopping power.

There is no BEST. Below is a list. Pick anyone on the list, it's not in best to worst order so no the top one is not the best. Run a few mags full of your choice to make sure it functions well in your gun. No what functions we in other's guns does not guarantee that it will function in yours.
For range. Anything that function well in YOUR gun. Wolf, Winchester white box, PMC, Monarch. What ever is cheapest.
9 mm:
Barnes XPB 115 gr JHP (copper bullet)
Federal Tactical 124 gr JHP (LE9T1)
Federal HST 124 gr +P JHP (P9HST3)
Remington Golden Saber 124 gr +P JHP bonded (GSB9MMD)
Speer Gold Dot 124 gr JHP
Speer Gold Dot 124 gr +P JHP
Winchester Partition Gold 124 gr JHP (RA91P)
Winchester Ranger-T 124 gr +P JHP (RA9124TP)
Winchester Ranger Bonded 124 gr +P JHP (RA9BA)
Winchester Ranger-T 127 gr +P+ JHP (RA9TA)
Federal Tactical 135 gr +P JHP (LE9T5)
Federal HST 147 gr JHP (P9HST2)
Remington Golden Saber 147 gr JHP (GS9MMC)
Speer Gold Dot 147 gr JHP
Winchester Ranger-T 147 gr JHP (RA9T)
Winchester 147 gr bonded JHP (RA9B/Q4364)

For range ammo I consistently use the Winchester White Box 115gr or the similar Remington brand (also 115 gr). I can get 100 rd boxes of the WWB at Walmart cheaply.
For carry, I like the Hornaday Critical Defense ammo.
Those are my preferences. Hope this helps.

One more point, my son bought the Wolf brand 500 round bulk 9mm for his XD and we found it to be functional but seemingly louder, dirtier, with more muzzle flash than the WWB I use. It may have been the box he got, but he was very happy to be done with that. He hasn't bought it since.

An here it is.
Hornady CD is the worst choice. Stick to a good quality HP from the list I posted.

I'll be even simpler.
Gold Dot's or Ranger's. Found about everywhere and they work reliably. Especially at 147gr. No matter how magically the bullet performs, an accurate shot to the center of mass is still a requirement.

Ranger Ts or Bonded. Not just any Ranger.
I generally tell people Gold Dots or Golden Sabers since you can't screw that up.
