My only negative is the stock trigger isn't great. It's not bad, but not great. Fortunately Powder River makes that an easy fix. After installing their ultimate match trigger, my XDM became my favorite handgun. Great ergonomics, more accurate than necessary, and I have yet to have a malfunction of any kind in nearly 7 months of regular use. You will not be disappointed.

How does the size of the grip compare to the xd 40 grip. I know you can change the back strap, but can you make it the same size as the xd 40?

You will have to break in the magazines . That's about the only issue I had with the gun. Seriously, if you load the mag fully and keep the gun +1, you will have to really fight to release the mag, initially. The quick solution is to apply firm, upward pressure on the mag baseplate while pressing the mag release. The first night that I tried to drop a fully loaded mag, I thought I was going to break the gun before it would release the magazine. That night I spent a few hours just seating and dropping the mag. It broke in pretty well that night, and has been a dream to use since. It isn't an issue at the range, since you won't drop full mags (load, shoot, drop and repeat). However, once you cycle through the mags (load and empty them the "fun" way) a few times or simply leave them fully loaded for a few days, the mag springs will loosen up. The trigger hasn't been an issue for me at all. I love the gun even more every time I shoot it. Though, I do want a set of night sights for the gun. I may have to get those for Christmas or something.

I really like mine. Had to change out factory 3-dot sights on mine after 1000rds. on mine do to white dots faded out. I replaced them with Trijicon HD nights mine. I have used this gun in our 3-Gun matches shooting 4" steel gongs at 20yds. Gun is very accurate. I have not had any issues with the factory trrigger producing good groups with it. Not saying a trigger job wouldn't make the goups any smaller. Some day will install the PRP Ultimate trigger in it. Have not had any issues with magazines releasing either that was mentioned in earlier post.

Can't say anything bad about this pistol. Great choice for HD IMO. The only down side is ammo $...

I'm pretty sure the 9mm and .40 grips are a bit narrower than the .45, so changing the backstrap won't get you quite the same grip. I can tell you, in my opinion, it is the best "fit" in the hand of any polymer .45 currently out there.

Thumbs up

My choice for HD. Accurate, reliable, and very controllable.

I have both the 9 and 45 in XDM 4.5. The 9 and 40 are exactly the same size. The 45's slide and grip is about 2 mm. wider. I use the No. 2 backstrap on the 9 and the No. 1 on the 45 to get the same feel. I also have PRP grip decals on both.

The Trigger

I bought my XDM 45 because it felt great in my hand. The trigger, however, almost made me sell it. I put a PRP drop in trigger kit in it and it made the gun a keeper. I also put "AGRIP" from Brooks Tactical on mine and it helps keep a good grip on the gun in the wonderful Florida weather.
